BevNET’s Ten Drinks to Watch for Summer 2007

posted in awards |

We’ve just passed the halfway point for the year, so it seems only appropriate to take a quick look back at new products that were introduced in the first six months of 2007.

In all, we’ve tried approximately 100 brands and 350 varieties/SKUs, which represents a fairly healthy year for the industry.  In case you were wondering, about 110 of those 350 varieties are energy drinks, 75 are water, 50 were carbonated soft drinks, and the rest were scattered across tea, juice, sports drink, and dairy.

So, which ones do we think were the best?  Here’s the list of our  ten favorites, in no particular order:

BevNET’s “Ten Drinks to Watch for Summer 2007″:

  • Glaceau Vitamin Energy
  • Function
  • Steaz Energy
  • Java Monster
  • Guru  Energy Drink
  • Sweet Leaf Lemonade Stand
  • Jones Pure Cane Soda
  • O Beverages Infused
  • Izze Esque
  • Bombilla Gourd

What does it mean to be on this list?  These are, in our opinion, the drinks that stood out from the pack, offering a balance of exceptional formulation, packaging, branding, functionality, taste and, last but not least, innovation.   At this point, these products have the right stuff to succeed — and now it’s up the beverage marketers behind these drinks to exectute.

Missing the boat if you don’t think that Nutrisoda is on the rise. This brand continues to grow and is just now expanding nationally. Keep your eye on this product line.

you forgot BAWLS Guarana Cherry flavor, with all the event marketing they are doing and I see them everywhere, not to mention it’s a great tasting product!

Good call on Jones. I’ve tried the rootbeer and cream sodas with pure cane sugar and they are superb. Real crisp. You don’t notice how good the real sugar is until you go back and drink a soda with high fructose corn syrup. Now that it’s being sold in cans (cheaper than bottles) and in many more retailers, there’s no reason to buy HFCS soda anymore.

They’re supposed to be coming out with a cola in stores in a couple months. It will be an “aged” cola, whatever that means. Sounds intense.

[…] haven’t seen the Javas, but they did make the top 10 list at bevnet.com, for whatever that’s […]

Ok, but have you tasted these drinks. I personally don’t agree with list at all. Java Monster is not what I want to be drinking on a hot summer day. Vitamin water is overdone and isn’t very tasty either. Energy drinks have saturated the market so much that you can’t move without knocking one over. Drinks to watch for the summer should be lite, cool , refreshing. I am thinking 2 of my top ten for the summer would be FlavH2O Peach or even apple. Just the right coolness to get me by these lazy days of summer or pretty much any day. This is a drink to watch. Aeration is new to me and I like it and now I’m looking for it. Sorry guys.

Wow, Nancy. You couldnt possibly work with Flavh2o could you? What a blatant and shameless attempt of self promotion.

Oh, and if aeration is new to you, then what have you been drinking? Aeration = carbonation. Lets not be stupid.

No sorry I have a real job. I am a General Manager for a car dealership in Chicago. A little far from the beverage industry. Maybe what scares you is big words! Look it up it isn’t Co2 its o2…but I guess you knew that too right. Grow up, no one here is looking for your fight. Take it back home and keep it there. Besides have you even tried it Einstein!

I like the new Sugar free Crunk - I love the pomegranate flavor and zero calories is an added bonus.

Sorry but if you mentioned Guru in there, I would have to disagree with you. It has to be one of the worst tasting drinks I’ve had so far. What about the new cherry flavored Bawls? I’ve been seeing them everywhere in SoCal and it taste damn good…….Thanks

    Dear Bevnet,

You guys reviewed the drink VegasFuel awhile ago and gave it a really good review. I will tell you that several bars and clubs in the Vegas area are going nuts over this drink not only because it tastes good, but it mixes with ANYTHING as well. You guys missed the boat by not listing this as a top drink to watch for Summer 2007. You should take another sample of that drink it rocks!

what is the difference in taste in aerated water anyways? is it like soda water without that awful taste? if so, that’s AWESOME! the overseas market up the street from school sells lychee aerated water. lychee is a great flavor and i dont know why it hasn’t caught on in the us as much as asia. another good flavor from asia (at least in ice cream) is taro root, a form of yam but not yammy tasting.
