Beverage industry veteran Mike Schott, 59, passed away yesterday, succumbing to an almost 2 year battle with brain cancer.

While Schott most recently played a key role with Hansen Natural’s Monster Energy brand, he also held positions with a variety of beverage companies, including AriZona, Pepsi, SoBe, Snapple, and Nantucket Nectars.

I worked for Mike for several years in the mid 90’s with AriZona Beverage. He was the toughest guy I ever worked for, but I had the utmost respect for his drive, determination and work ethic. Even years after we no longer worked together, we would talk from time to time, and he would occasionally take my family out to dinner when he was in town. He was a class guy. He will be missed.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Mike’s family.
I only met Mike twice. During the summer of 1970, Mike was a my camp counselor in Pittsfield Mass (Camp Potomac) I was 11 years old. It was my first time away from home and boy was I homesick. I was scared and cried all the time. Mike was always there for me. I was embarrassed about not being able to be strong so Mike found time to talk to me alone – away from the other kids – he was a great psychologist. I have kept the camp picture, a group shot of all the counselors and campers. He told me three things that summer. “When the going gets tough, the tough get going, its fun to run, and Just be yourself.” After reading about his passing, I began looking back on my life and I realized that whenever I faced adversity, Mike’s spirit was with me. When I was 20, and in college I stopped by his office on 5th avenue to say hi. ALthough very busy, he made time to talk. I pray that Mike’s soul will be bound up in the bonds of eternal life, and I am sure that God has a special place in heaven for Mike.
