Red Bull Bandit Gets 24 Years

We know a lot of consumers love Red Bull, but Samer Bader, 31, of Glen Ellyn, IL really loves Red Bull.  So much so, in fact, that on two separate occasions he hijacked two trucks filled with Red Bull.  He netted over 800 cases of the stuff.

The Peter Van Stolk Era Nears End

Back in the summer of 1996, I met Peter Van Stolk on the steps of the “Gourmet Garage”, a trendy grocery store in Manhattan’s SoHo district.  Decked out in black Jones attire, Peter had just finished an in-store sampling of the Jones CSD lineup and he was pretty pumped….No surprise for a guy who was always working some sort of creative angle to sell his product.  In this case, the then unique flavors, such as Strawberry Lime, sold well in this hip part of town (at least by my recollection).

Gatorade inventor passes away

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Dr. J. Robert Cade, who invented the sports drink Gatorade and launched a multibillion-dollar industry that the beverage continues to dominate, died Tuesday of kidney failure. He was 80.http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=3130043

The Switch Effect by Mike Gilbert disappoints

The story of The Switch is not a new one to anyone who has been in the beverage industry for the past few years.  The company started from relatively humble roots, raised money, and crashed to bankruptcy before a new team came in and snatched up the company’s assets.  It’s hardly a rosy tale of entrepreneurial success.

Dasani Gets “Bad Product Award”

Consumers International, an international federation of consumer groups, recently announced its Global Bad Product Awards.  On the list was Coke’s Dasani water, which was included “for continuing the international marketing of its bottled water, Dasani, despite admitting it comes from the same sources as local tap water.”
