Cherry flavored vault? From what I have heard there may be a possibility for it late 2007.

Can anyone confirm?

I still think that's too soon for a flavor-extension.

Heck, ABARTA still isn't producing it... and they cover some big cities.

CCBCC also doesn't carry it in their Sundrop strongholds, either.

A year out, anything is possible. We could start rumors about cherry Coke Zero, cherry Sprite, diet Chocolate Coke, wildberry Mountain Dew, or any other number of crazy flavors. The companies are constantly working on new things, and eventually some of them see the light of day.

If you go by what the other major citrus drinks have done, there could also be a caffeine-free Vault and a cherry Vault in the future. I have not seen a caffeine-free Mello Yello yet.

Wouldnt caffeine-free vault kinda defeat the purpose of vault being a high caffeine energy soda? But cherry vault could happen, it seems to be a trait of all other citrus sodas...

well from what I understand in canada all mountain dew is caffeine-free while it's us counterpart has a market for the caffeine. That being said I don't think it that big a jump for vault to offer that option as well.

mjb1124
09-17-2006, 03:16 PM
Right now, Vault's "energy drink" qualities are its main selling point. If Vault REALLY catches on, then I could see a CF version somewhere down the line, but certainly not anytime soon. Of course, since I try to watch my caffeine intake, I personally would love a CF Vault, provided that it tasted close enough to the original.

As for Cherry Vault - I know that there's such a suggestion on the front page of VaultKicks.org, but I don't think there's any concrete news on this. Still, I suppose that if Vault is still selling well by the end of 2007, a line extension would make sense.

Cherry Mello Yello was awesome stuff, I wish they still made it.. :( Vault also being a citrus drink would be good with a cherry flavor added to it. Plus, in late 2007 Vault would have been available in most places for about 2 years correct? I'd say if it is selling well, then go for it. I'd buy it.

It actually says it's a *berry* flavor. Which for me is good, because I was hoping for something that stood out from Code Red. I think March might be a *little* too soon for a line extension, but hey, I guess this is a sign that Vault is doing well.

I'm definitely excited about the new flavor. I don't think Coke would be trying this if Vault weren't permorming up to their expectations.

MY cousin works for coca-cola in nj. word is that mid 2007 vault will be coming to an end. They have been getting more back out of date than sending out new. There is a chance of a national launch of mello-yello, but coke is saying next year some time vault is done.

Yeah there is no way. It seems like everyday at college I see 10 or more people carrying around and drinking a vault, and the guys in my dorm room bring some from home all the time. And Cstoreman or whatever your name is. Cherry is sort of a berry but how do you know that the berry flavor is actually going to be cherry. There is blackberry, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, must I go on? Sure its red but it could also be a mixture of berries like a wildberry flavor. I don't think it will be the same as code red though. It tastes like cherry kool-aid.

Speaking from my experience as a grocery store soda pop geek inspector(Colombo trained LOL); Vault appears to not move in any big numbers.

IMO, Vault appeals to the young adult crowd. MD has a very devoted core demographic of drinkers of all ages. MD remains a big mover.

I like Vault but I enjoy MD much more and I buy MD on a regular basis.

So, by time this flavor comes out... I'll be ready for it.

Vault is the number 7 SKU for Coke exept in 20oz where it is about 3rd or 4th. Considering Coke has about 4 top ten drinks (and Zero will knock out Mist this year.) Just think Coke, Diet, Sprite, Barqs, Fanta, all the line extensions, Zero, MY. Clearly they don't launch extensions for a product that is about to get the axe. VAULT has also shown growth with the launch areas having a significantly higher uptake rate. So yeah classic FUD.

Why would Coke go to the trouble of a line extension in Red Blitz if they are going to discontinue the brand early 2007?"

Here's my problem with this: Mountain Dew did not become the most popular citrus drink on the market in a year, year and a half. It took them time. Vault, in the same respect, will take time to become more popular. Vault still seems new. Give it time until people start buying it regularly, instead of just "trying it".

Mr Zabe
10-18-2006, 03:26 PM
In my view: Mountain Dew was successful due to one of the most well thought out marketing campaigns ever launched in the soda pop industry.

The campaigne matched the youthful exuberance of being a young adult with the "pep" of energy from it's higher caffeine content. This appealed to a younger generation of soda pop consumers has that transcended across several generations of soda pop drinkers. As well the quality and taste of MD was just the right product at the right time.

Like you said the court is still out for Vault. IMO it seems unlikely that Vault will catch on the way MD has.

I'm not sure Coke launched Vault to overtake Mountain Dew, or just to have a better contender than Mello Yello, especially in 20 ounce.

It isn't really a big seller here. I always see the Coke guys around, so I might ask them.

There's a store that sells a lot of short-dated beverages, and Vault isn't a big seller there. They have two coolers full of it, and tons of 20oz cases in the back. It isn't selling at 2 for a dollar. I bought a lot when it was 4 for a dollar, haha.

Your bias is so severe I dont really wanna waste my time digging it up since it wont change the bizarely negative stance you have towords Coke and VAULT.

Still I will admit that NY and So. Cal are not great areas for citrus and were amoung the worst regions for SURGE, Kick, and Mello Yello. So I can buy that it isnt doing as well there as in other places. Here in MI it is solidly number 4 since the massive increase in Sprite- with continued volume increase. We were a launch area as well.

If Vault is doing so well then why is it priced at $0.79/20oz till the end of 06? Oh yeah, because it will not sell at regular price just like 14 oz MDX did not sell once the price went up. Also, I see outdated Vault in every package, every day in the stores I service. When was the last time you saw an outdated MD 20oz even at $1.29 per bottle? Will Vault disapear? Not today, but I wouldn't bet on it surviving in the long term.

I rarely see any out of date Vault in the trade here. 2 liters and 20 ounce are dated into January and cans are June 2007. It's usually line priced with other Coke CSD's.

CStoreCatMan
11-09-2006, 12:30 PM
Maybe the east coast. It's not doing that well on the west...

Account Specific Example - one of our biggest c-store chains just updated their CSD planograms. Vault 20oz had one facing on the shelf which represented 14.5 days of supply. That means it will take over 14 days to sell the 9 bottles on the shelf. Do the math and that means Vault is selling 0.62 bottles per day. So basically selling one bottle every other day. It won't make it on the next planogram with that kind of performance and I don't see how it would stick around in the long run...that's here in SoCal, I know the story is probably different elsewhere.

Wisconsin loves Vault. I've switched to Vault Zero though. Best zero calorie soda ever!

Anyway, it seems to be selling pretty well here. One of the covenience stores I frequent not only sells it in 20 ounce and 1 liters, they sell individual cans too. (Vault Zero as well.)

I know a lot of people here that drink Vault frequently! smile.gif
