View Full Version : Coca-Cola Polar Bears on Packaging
10-24-2005, 04:14 PM
I recently seen a 12 pack of Coca-Cola cans with the polar bears on the packaging of the carton. Is this for the holiday season? Is it going to replace Santa?

In fact, here in Mexico, Coca-Cola made more emphasis on the Polar Bears than Santa since 2003 in the christmas packaging. See, in a set of 6 cans, only Santa appeared in two:

And the christmas promotion was about tiny electronic Polar Bears where you could record a message.

I hope not. I really don't care for the bears.

I fancy Santa, it just seems nice although some would say not PC. I say chill and don't buy if you must cry PC!!!!

XLS_04, are these the 2005 holiday cans?
I am a bit tired of the Santa cans myself. Something new.
Now if Coke USA only came out with olympic cans like they did for the 06 winter games, I would be in collectors heaven.

I like the Santa cans. They are a tradition and have been around as long as I can remember. I am only in college though, but I say keep the santa cans. I don't drink coke but I like the santa cans lol.

Its normal that Coca-Cola uses Santa in their packaging every christmas, don't forget that Coca-Cola created the Santa Claus visual concept that is well-known today... and the christmas cans are like a memorial to Mr. Haddon Sundblom who created all that wonderful Santa Claus art.

I believe the bears may be on the 2005 Christmas bottles, based on a small picture I saw in the BJ's Warehouse Club Christmas book.

The bears are on the 2005 Christmas bottles as I have bought some today.

Yes, they are wrapped glass from (MR). I found these at a local Marsh Supermarket. Kroger has also just received them.

Coke probably did this because of confrontational reasons. This had started in other countries first but finally happened here.
I don't mind the polar bears but I am just suprised after over 40 years that they would stop using the Santa Claus.
Coke does not even make olympic cans here anymore either, yet still makes a big deal about the olympics in other countries.

The bears are also on normal 2L/12pk packaging. It started showing up around here in the past few days.

They had an Olympic Can not too long ago, but it was 8oz. It was canned out of Portland, IN. It had a light blue side and had the Olympic Rings.

Here in Mexico, the 2005 Holiday cans has just released today...
There's three cans, but the weirdest thing is that instead of paintings (like the cans in the previous reply), now in one can there's a drawing of Santa and in another one a drawing of two Polar Bears giving a gift (both like if they were handmade)... no Coca-Cola Sundblom artwork like in 14 years in a row. Pictures soon...

I noticed today that CCBCC is producing 8pk PET Coke + Diet with the holiday graphics as well. Philadelphia Coke buys their 8pks from CCBCC.
Philadelphia also now makes Diet Coke w/ Lime in 6pk 16.9oz.

This is our promotion for Christmas 2005... CACHIVACHES COCA-COLA!!
I still don't know how does them work, because they haven't arrived at my town, but what I know is that they're really expensive: 5 crown caps or 3 plastic caps + $40 pesos ($4 dollars)

When was that can out. I have not seen a US coke can with olympic rings in years.
They most certainly did not roll out the nationwide olympic cans for Salt Lake 2002.
I wonder if they will do it this year for Turin 06

Effectively... polar bears are on 2005 packaging:
Holiday Fridge Pack (http://www2.coca-cola.com/presscenter/img/imagenews/downloads/lg_holiday_packaging_bears.jpg)
Polar Bears are on the holiday packaging while Santa appears in store display materials...
But Coca-Cola and Diet Coke won't be the only ones with holiday graphics, also Coke Zero and... C2?
The slogan for holidays will be: Give. Live. Love. Coke. (similar to the one we have here: Toma lo bueno, Da lo bueno -take the good things, give the good things)

...and here is the holiday design of the cans in Mexico, as you can see, they completely different from the ones I showed before, no Haddon Sundblom style drawings...

The Olympic can was 8oz and from Portland, IN. I can't remember how long ago, but it has been a while. They really looked cool because one side had a skyblue background with the Olympic Rings.

I just found a can I held on to. It had a light blue ribbon around the lip that reads "PROUD SPONSOR OF THE 2004 U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM" On the side it has the Olympic wreath USA Athens 2004 and the Olympic Rings.

As I could see, Coca-Cola U.S.A. only makes conmemorative cans about Summer Olympic Games or Soccer World Cups when they're celebrated in U.S.: remember the packaging during the 1994 FIFA World Cup or the 1996 olympic cans.
