View Full Version : MDX finally goes 20oz.

10-05-2006, 02:14 AM
Pretty much everybody who heard about MDX back when it was in the launch phase lambasted Pepsi for the boarderline-retarded decision to go with 14oz bottles at the original high price. First the price went down and seems to have stayed that way and now they finally have realized that its gonna take more than that to keep the stuff from collecting even more dust. Starting in the next month or so MDX is going 20oz and more than likely losing the sugarless variety. If only some of these big whigs visited BevBoard perhaps they could have avoided the embarassment, and stockholder ire of a launch like MDX (or Blak, or the rest of this crap).

Yeah, I was less than surprised when I was told that a few weeks ago.

So... how much will it cost at 20oz?

In less than 9 months about $0.79 on close out. LOL

IMO...I do not not think the size nor the price of the 20oz bottle will help increase MDX's market share. (FYI...MDX is nearly non existent in the grocery stores that I shop at in Chicago.)

My guess is that it will be line-priced with the rest of the 20oz Pepsi products.

Your guess would be correct, fusion. We are slated to have by the end of this month.

All the MDX 14 ounce is finally out, just sitting collecting dust till they go outdated and the 20ounce is released, I hear they will be priced inline with other 20oz @ $1.18.

10-13-2006, 11:31 AM
Ok this is kind of weird. When the 14 oz. first came out they were selling for $2. When the 20 oz. come out they will be selling for $1.18? I just don't get it.

10-13-2006, 02:23 PM
So is this going to be in the normal Pepsi "swirl" bottles?

Its called somebody finely getting a clue and realizing it is a very uncompetitive and long forgotten product by consumers who are a bit brighter than some of suits would have us believe. No doubt this will help alot but with most of the 14oz being under 80c this is really just a reimagining.

If 14oz bottles where 80 cents in my area... i'd buy a handful.

Scored a 20oz MDX today. I might actually buy the stuff now. You get all of those fancy energy drink ingredients for the price of a regular bottle of pop!

There's a small glut of 14oz's in my area, so it might take a while... And they are $1.69+

David J and Rob the Surge Drinker, although I don't have a pic, I was finally able to buy an MDX today for the first time in quite a long time (I was very happy to see that huge 20oz sittin' there!).

It is $1.49 here in St. Paul, Minnesota (or Minneapolis for those unfamiliar with St. Paul) at the local leading grocery store (it's always cheaper at the grocery store).

I'm taking a guess that the bottler code is 071OMC10136 3X. I see another code that's actually on the label underneath "Best Taste drink by date on bottle" which is 2268-329-0000-00.

Or something like that. The second "O" in the first code could be a 0 (zero).

Oh, and mikibacsi, it is in the "swirl" bottle.

That's all I have to say. I Googled 'MDX 20oz" just to check out what's goin' on with it, clicked on this thread within the results, and then I felt the need to provide these answers just because I can.

Here's to the new 20oz MDX! :D

The bottle was filled on 10/13/06.
That's pretty fresh. That's a good sign. smile.gif

I went out, and there's only a few pockets of 14oz MDX, and in some stores it is gone, but the ad's are still there.

I may call the local Pepsi bottler and see what is going on... if we are going to get it soon.

I saw the new 20oz bottles today. Filled in Cheverly MD, where the old 14oz bottles were also filled.

I hope to see some soon. smile.gif

That's a pretty sexy package. I think this new MDX will sell a lot better.

Maybe tommorow I will see some? I hope. smile.gif

found 20 oz. MDX for .99 at a superamerica gas station.

I saw them today!

The store that had a handful of 14 oz's has just 20oz bottles now, for the same price as a 20oz Mountain Dew/Pepsi/etc. It isn't in with the e-drinks anymore.

I'm just waiting for the store that sells short-dated soda's to get some in, so I can get it for 50-cents a bottle.

Mr Zabe

Just my two cents and strong gut feeling.
MDX 20oz will not catch on as a soda pop or as an energy soda pop. My guess is that MDX will fade away to a slow death ending in the second quarter of 2008.

David J.
10-30-2006, 04:32 PM
It's still sold as "Energy Soda" on the 20oz bottles. I went back to the store to buy another... and they did have some 14oz's... for more money.

On a lighter note. I took a pic:

11-02-2006, 03:17 AM
All the CVS' by me now have the 20oz. Just bought 4 of them. Some of them still have the 14oz for $1.79, while the 20oz is $1.38. I'm going to try and get them to reduce the price on the 14oz.

11-02-2006, 10:20 AM
They probably won't. They'll get credit from the Pepsi driver, so it's no loss for them to just send them back on the truck. Since they paid a higher price for the 14oz, they'd end up losing money if they reduced the price.

02-19-2007, 12:00 PM
Quick question. Has sugar-free MDX been discontinued? When the 14 oz MDX came out, I bought a regular and a sugar-free one for my collection. Now that the 20 oz debuted, I can't find it in a 20 oz. anywhere. Anyone know?

02-19-2007, 02:55 PM
Sugar Free MDX has been discontinued. I don't think there is a plan to bring it back to life anytime soon.

02-19-2007, 03:48 PM
Thanks Mofizz! I can quit looking now.

02-20-2007, 05:44 PM
Vault and MDX came out the same time here in Nashville. In fact, I first found both of them at a gas station down the street. Now, Vault is everywhere, while MDX is very hard to find.

02-20-2007, 07:04 PM
Hey Chris, any good sodas in Nashville? I'll be heading there in July for the National Coca-Cola Convention...

02-20-2007, 09:19 PM
I was in Murfreesboro (east of Nashville) and found Ski and Double Cola in deli bottles. and in the Super Wally, I found 18 packs of 12oz cans of Coke products, and 18 packs of 8oz cans of Pepsi products.

If you get a chance, go to Tullahoma and stop at the store in front of the Coke plant - you won't be disappointed.
