Flat Soda Sales? (http://money.cnn.com/2006/03/09/news/companies/soda/index.htm?cnn=yes)

Do you all think this article is accurate of just a planted media piece to boost other beverage catagories?

regular hfcs sodas have been flat or declining for years in the US, the only growth in the US in the CSD category has came from diets and new products. The industry as a whole has been moving towards alternative drinks such as water, teas, non carbs like Sobe and Fuze.
So to answer your question Mr Zabe, I believe that the article has alot of truth to it although I did not read it all.

but does it really matter if the same companies that make the soft drinks make the energy , sports drinks, and teas as well.

Both Coke and Pepsi have energy and sport drinks, yes, but Coca-Cola and Pepsi cola are their flagship brands, the ones who put their name and logo out there. When sales of their namesake products decline, so does the potency of their name. I believe that Coke and Pepsi diluted their own sales by chasing Red Bull, Evian, and other smaller non-soda brands. B'sides, the average consumer doesn't pick up a Powerade thinking it's a Coke product.
