View Full Version : Dad's

We've never had Dad's Root Beer in the South. It's always been Barq's country here. We do have A&W and Mug, but Barq's simply rules.

I've tried Dad's while on roadtrips and have only seen the Root Beer. However, I was shocked to find the following at Big Lots this week! Nice 1 liter bottles and in several flavors. Is everyone aware of this nice product line??

I drank Dad's made with sugar cane out of a glass bottle during my youth at our local YMCA. Boy was that a treat on a winter Saterday morning. smile.gif

I have only seen diet and regular root beer in our local stores. I wonder if the Chi Town Big Lots have the line up of Dad's that you have. Our nearest Big Lots just closed down a few weeks ago. :(

I think Dad's is my favorite root beer, but I haven't seen it in almost 10 years.

Yes, they are very good. I tried the orange cream last night and it's very similar to an orange creamsicle!

I agree,Dad's is on my A List for sure.
Chi Town has had fridge packs and cases for a long time. Just recently, I recall seeing those 8oz glass 6pks at the local grocery store.

I love Dad's because for a mass market root beer, it is very smooth and makes the best root beer floats ever. :D

Has anyone tried 7-11's Big Gulp brand Green Cream soda? LOL

It's nothing too special, comparable to red cream.

I just realized how appropriate my Green Cream post is on this St. Patricks day. lol

Back when I was a kid, I used to con my mom into buying me some Dad's root beer, and I grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. We had it in cans and 2L at the Kroger just down the street. I guess the Cheerwine distributor discontinued it back in the 80s or early 90s. Then a couple years ago, I saw it in Danville, VA. But a few months ago, the Cheerwine distributor here took over the Danville area, and Dad's as well as my beloved Big Red got discontinued.
Barq's has never been available in Greensboro outside of fountains for as long as I can remember. At least I can find THAT in Danville.

I found the Root Beer, Diet Root Beer, and Cream at a Big Lots in eastern MD the other day. No Orange or Red Cream, though.

We've got them in Big Lots in NC. The bottles are interesting - they're shaped like the old Dad's glass bottles. I wonder if they'll come out with a "Junior" size next.

Whatever happened to Cotton Club Ginger Ale?? I used to buy it at Big Lots all the time and now I can't find it anymore. It was awesome!!

I miss Dad's so bad. It is, bar none, my favorite root beer. I haven't seen it in at least 5 years. They used to have it in the smallish town I grew up in in WI, but it isn't there anymore.

I really want it back though, Mug and Barq's are both swill. A&W is ok though.
