Here's a link to a story on Big Red from the San Antonio Express-News. You might have to register to see the article but it provides some interesting figures about the popularity of the product.

It was quite interesting. San Antionio is #1 per capita, Seymour, IN #2, Laredo, TX #3, Louisville, KY #4. When I travel from Indianapolis to Louisville I notice when I stop at Supermarkets in Seymour and Louisville that Big Red has more shelf space than Pepsi. They even stock it in 12 oz glass bottles, 20 oz singles, 16.9 oz multi-paks, 12 pack cans and 24 pack cans, and 2L. They also now are selling 4-packs of 12 oz glass "Big Red Floatz". I have a 4 pack I have not yet tried. It seems to look similar to Barq's Floatz.

"Big Red Floatz"? I'm having a hard time imagining what that might taste like. A root beer ice-cream float flavor like Barq's Floatz is one thing, but a Big Red ice-cream float? My brain can't comprehend such a horror.

I haven't seen Big Red Floatz yet, which is strange considering how this market is about Big Red.

I did find Barq's Red Creme in a fountain outlet this evening. Coke doesn't market it in cans in this area but offers it for fountain outlets, with not many takers.

I found twelve packs of Spicewood Ted's Red Soda up in Temple, TX Sunday. Haven't tried it yet but I hear it's pretty good.
