CCE in michigan ships to the Indiana border using a shuttle site for trucks. I'm going to explain this here, and then enclose maps to explain. I finally had the concept explained to me the other day.

CCE runs trucks out of lansing michigan, shown here: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=3300+S+Creyts+Rd+&city=lansing&state=mi&zipcode=

they service the indiana border by doubling route trucks and driving them back and forth to from a "shuttle site" in addison michigan (shown here: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=&city=addison&state=mi&zipcode=) and lansing.

they fill the trucks in lansing. drive them down at night. the drivers go out during the day and hit all the small towns and then they bring their trucks back to the shuttle site where they disengage the trailers and someone from lansing is there to drive the trailers (four of them) two at a time to be filled. the trucks pallets are already built so they just have to load them.

the route the doubling takes is here: http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&rmm=1&un=m&cl=EN&ct=NA&rsres=1&1ahXX=&1y=US&1a=3300+S+Creyts+Rd&1c=Lansing&1s=MI&1z=48917-8508&2ahXX=&2y=US&2a=&2c=addison&2s =mi&2z= (http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&rmm=1&un=m&cl=EN&ct=NA&rsres=1&1ahXX=&1y=US&1a=3300+S+Creyts+Rd&1c=Lansing&1s=MI&1z=48917-8508&2ahXX=&2y=US&2a=&2c=addison&2s=mi&2z=)

it's quite a long trip for a driver to make everyday if he wanted to just get to his stops. none of these towns have bulk service, and the most they have are independent or IGA grocerys that can be built independently of the rest of the orders and forklifted off. driver merchandises or the store merchandises, depending on agreements.

i just thought this would be interesting and i don't know if CCE does this in other areas of the country, but this area around addison and south is pretty lonely/deserted so it makes sense to do it like this.

i met one of the drivers and also the guy that drives the trailers down. the guy that drives down there loves it because he's away from his bosses and there's no hubbub or sales people or anything. he just drops and builds little displays and everyone of his accounts are great people.

I have seen a CCE shuttle site in Crothersville Indiana. There might be up to 20 trailers in the gravel lot with no buildings. The site sits behind a gas station on the I65 exit.

does anyone know if 7Up or Pepsi use shuttle sites to deliver? i know we've gotten more industry people and especially drivers on this board in the last few weeks.

yeah we have a shuttle site in St. Joeseph Michigan...we run 3 sideload routes and 1 full service route out of this drop site..there is also one in muskegon that comes shuttled out of grand rapids...7up in holland also utilizes a shuttle to the muskegon area as well
