Is it me? Has anyone tried a can of the 7up New Natural soda pop. I could swear that the formula has been changed. It tastes a little more subdued and a touch sweeter. Am I loosing my mind?

You might be losing your mind, Zabe, but you're still correct. 7-Up has changed its formula, and I can't find the new stuff ANYWHERE.

I found it in Frederick, Maryland at Weiss. I don't like it that much.

At first drink.LOL I'm not too thrilled with the new formula. Maybe I will get use to it. The old formula had a unique flavor that had been my go too lemon lime life preserver.

It does appear that 7up has thrown in the towel dare I say LOL...it tastes like
Sierra Mist. On no please set me in cement and toss me over board. YECK

I'm so bummed! I drank my second can of 7-piss miss-up wannabe. I ask why? Why be more like one of the worst mass market lemon lime soda pops? What is "Natural" about this new formula? Where was the advance marketing to soften the shock of the core die hard 7up fans?

I say give me a break. My long time, always therapeutic soda pop friend, the one who got me through many illnesses and health disasters, the one drink that had the coolest un-cola commercial in the 1970's (the one with the man with the deep voice and tropical surroundings.....I ask dear Lord why me,why, why, why? :( :( :(

well to be honest I never cared for 7up much before it had a bite to it... but the new stuff is pretty smooth, I just wish cherry 7up was changed too from what I was told its just the regular for now.

My Godness!

I bought a 2 litre of the "new" 7 up last night.
Let it sit in the fridge for a while, and then had a drink.
FANTASTIC! This is what a lemon lime soda SHOULD taste like.
The carbonation was perfect, as it always is with 7up. And what did I detect that I can never detect in Spirte, or Sierra Mist.....That's right...I can finaly taste the lemon and the lime.
Yes, it is a touch sweeter, but I think over all, this is 7up as pulled mile ahead of the copitition.
Bravo!

OK....I will keep an open mind.
I have had a nasty head cold for the past week or so. I will try it again once my system is firing on all cylinders. LOL

From your review, maybe the new formula might not be all that bad, even good. smile.gif

It's funny Sunkist Orange tastes perfect even with a head cold. LOL

When you're cold, you can't enjoy your favorite sodas, and the worst thing... if you drink a soda... you have to drink it warm :( ugh!

I still associate Cherry 7up witht the chicken pox. I had it while I was sick, and when I have had it since, it still reminds me of being sick!
(and this was during x-mas break 87/88!)

Cherry 7-up is stellar and I hope that any reformulation doesnt mess this up. Got alittle of this new 7up but I've just been waiting for the right moment. Sad that this is the 2nd reformulation in like 3 years.

I've had it. For a gazillion years, 7-up was 7-up. There was a reason why it was around so long - people liked it. A few years ago, some Johnny-come-lately corporate bonehead had to tinker with the formula, probably trying to capture more of the NEVER-satisfactory market share (HMMMM - Screw those loyal customers who have supported the brand all these years.) Reluctantly, I adapted to the "New Formula." Well, here we go again - another formula change. I say, ENOUGH! - SCREW YOU, 7-up! I'm switching to Sprite. At least Coca-Cola now seems to realize you don't monkey around with a successful recipe.

I didn't know they changed it recently, in the last 3 years? I remember when they changed it in 1997 to compete more with Sprite...

I'm in Canada now though and 7up here tastes different than the stuff south of the border. i was quite shocked at the difference when I first came here 3 years ago.

The original "Uncola" which has been around for a while, finally with another reformulation, maybe will make it a bit more popular. The good thing is unlike Plus, this is not made with diet sweeteners. Instead, they just put natural label on it and slightly tweaked the formula. Still a lemon lime soda that's caffeine free and made with HFCS. smile.gif

Nope, it's not you. Th old and new 7up are DEFINITELY different. Now it is overly fruity and under carbonated -- much like Sprite. Here is the email I sent to 7up via their website. Do the same, too, and maybe enough comments will change it back.

I like that you are trying to make 7up all natural, but something was lost. It now tastes more like Sprite, which I hate, and is less carbonated. I really loved the heaverier carbonation and less fruity taste of old 7up. Please fix this. I cannot continue drinking this soda as is.

I bought a 4 pack of cans today @ Martin's (Giant-Carlisle) for 77¢, produced by Canada Dry Potomac / Beverage Capital. I also saw 12 packs at another store. But no 2 liters yet. 7Up Plus has also disappeared from this area.

Rob,
I read on this board that Cherry 7up was coming back and that 7up plus brand was given it's pink slip.

But I wonder about the Mixed Berry and Tropical versions. They will probably disappear quietly into the beverage graveyard, and nobody will miss them.

The first version of mixed berry looked pretty scary when it separated as it got older.

I usually don't like 7 up. It has always been my least favorite of the lemon-lime pops, but I've seen this stuff all around and people drinking it so I decided that I might as well give it a try. I was impressed, I think it tastes a lot better than the older stuff. It is actually good, so I was glad that I tried it.

I finally found some new 7up around here.

My friend says it tastes like Fruity Pebbles cereal.

I sort of like the new version, although I need to drink some more of it.

It's like Cad-Schw. made it taste a little more like natural lemon, but at the same time also made it taste more like artificial candy. What an accomplishment.

Sounds like mixed reviews so far. I've not tried it myself - I actually like Sprite too. I guess I'd better try it myself and see. Or maybe I'll wait until they come out with the SuperNatural flavor tongue.gif

Update:

I just drank a can of the 100% natural 7up. So far I have drunken 1/2 of my first fridge pack.
I poured the can of 7up over rinsed ice. I have to say that it tasted awesome.

I'm pretty sure that switching formulas requires a transition period for taste reevaluation (big fancy words, sorry smile.gif ). The rinsed ice took the carbonation up a notch. As well the lemon lime taste was right on the money. For sure it was a very enjoyable drink.

As of now 7up 100% Natural is back on my A list.

Looks like the 4 packs are a big sample push package for Cadbury now. I'm seeing 7Up Natural 4 packs for 77¢ and 79¢ in different chains. I guess they figured out with that Diet Dr Pepper promo that people won't pay 99¢ for a 4pk.

I wish I could find one of those 4 packs to try this, as I don't feel like buying a whole 12. Now I'm curious about which formula is being bottled by WJ... I would presume all production is shifting to the "Natural". If they would only use cane sugar, well then, I'd have a regular buy for sure (not to mention it would be the only conventional soda possibly carried at natural stores)!

I came across a few cans of the old 7up formula today. Gosh the old formula sure hits the spot. I wish CS could keep the old formula along with the new formula.
