View Full Version : Remember ORBITZ?
I never saw these drinks myself, but they sure didn't look appetizing (sodas with balls of I-don't-know what floating in them)!
No wonder they got out of the drinks business, and became an internet travel agency! :)

Before there was Orbitz, Mistic made something like it called Jumping Jems. The Strawberry Watermelon flavor of it was really good.

I was looking through bev web pages yesterday, and seen a picture of them. I remember them, and even drank one before. I can't remember if I liked them or not though. It was a looooong time ago it seems.

I have an unopened bottle of Orbitz on my shelf. It's just creepy to look at. Amazing on the domain name on the cap has a completely different meaning today.

I thought these wer nasty tasting. Especially those globs of things floating in them. What was that stuff??

you obviously didnt taste the drink, or dont know how to use words like "especially" because the balls were completely flavorless. im pretty sure they were gelatin. im the only person i know of who actually drank it regularly. it wasnt incredible, it was a cleary canadian product, and tasted the same as normal line but sweeter. the balls were not offensive at all, people freaked out about it. its no wierder than pumping carbon dioxide into a drink for no reason(all soda).
there were some gross flavors though. some coconut crap that had red and white balls. yuck. i drank some citrusy one.

I will have to admitt one thing. The beverage itself looked pretty neat. Different, but actually pretty cool! How they got the beverage to do that was really neat. Wish I could remember the taste. Can you still find this stuff or is it discontinued? tongue.gif

It's been discontinued since 1997-ish.

I bought a few bottles of Orbitz from a closeout store in Olean, NY called Odds-N-Ends for 25 cents a bottle in fall 1999, after they'd been discontinued. We tried making mixed drinks from them at a college party -- not good. And I still have an unopened bottle of the yellow flavor, just like the guy wrote about in his blog.
The balls weren't that bad; but the drink was sluggish, like drinking a gel or pure corn syrup rather than a refreshing pop.

Allow me to put that a different way o great one. The drink tasted terrible. The globs of garbage floating in it looked un- appetizing.

Yep, I remember them. I have several flavors packed away.. never been opened. They were scary....

I remember when Orbitz was died and buried, it seemed that Clearly Canadian wasn't on the shelves for a couple of years, and then it came back with the new labels.

Ah yes, Clearly Canadian. I had forgotten that. Thanks for the info.

I love this quote from the review of the coconut one on BevNET:
We would never drink this beverage again.
