View Full Version : Mountain Dew Pitch Black II!! Its out now!

08-17-2005, 06:17 PM
I just went by my local store in Dexter, MI and they had the new Mountain Dew Pitch Black II w/ a sour bite in 2 liters!! I still have not tried it yet, as I want to try it cold. Has anyone else seen this where they live?

08-17-2005, 06:28 PM
haven't seen it or heard about it coming out yet - i heard end of august so its probably making it way out in the next week???

how does it taste?

08-17-2005, 07:19 PM
I just went to a 7-11 in Frederick, MD, and they had it in 20oz and fridge. Produced in Baltimore MD.

I bought a 20oz. It's a lot better than the first incarnation -- the sour afterbite really gives it a nice finish.

I'm stocking up on this stuff this time. The first time it came out I loved it, but I just plain forgot to stock up on it. I've missed it for almost a year now....

08-17-2005, 11:40 PM
i still have some of pitch black 1 ; so if i dont like this stuff ill pull out some cans/20oz of that and sip it this halloween time..

i bet ill like this new one equally though

Pitch Black II is better than 1
for once the sequel doesnt suck!

08-18-2005, 01:46 AM
My 2 boxes of PB1 doubt they can be surpassed in greatness.

08-18-2005, 01:58 AM
I just tried it tonight. Its alot better than the original (I still have two cases left from last year). It tastes like the Darth Dew from 7-11. The sour aftertaste is really well done.

Sounds like Pitch Black 2 is a big improvment over the the original. I remember trying it when the original first came out. It was okay, but I wouldn't drink it again.

Straight from my journal. It's less "harsh" than the first one, does't scream GRAPE, its just grape now.

08-19-2005, 03:05 PM

08-19-2005, 03:18 PM
hmm, i really liked the grape flavor of the first..

ill pull out a can of the first, and a can of the second, and do a back-to-backer as soon as II shows up in chicago and let ya guys know my thoughts

08-19-2005, 06:29 PM
i like the new flavor, but its still nothing great...i think it will do well....but it will only be around for awhile anyways...stock up if you like it

08-19-2005, 08:08 PM
It does have a sour bite. It's certainly interesting.

08-20-2005, 03:24 AM
so is this available in northeast US? I want some

08-20-2005, 05:22 AM
found a 20oz today at a 7-11 near o'hare

its good, but i think i prefer the last kind, i dunno

will have to compare the two and also drink alot of this one to really give it a fair shot..

its really good, but the sourness of it doesnt taste like mt dew to me; it doesnt match the entire mt.dew family.. but its good.

best grape soda by far still

I may make a late night pop run during the wee hours of the morning. Is this 7 -11 a 24 hour store and approx. where it located. I live less than 4 miles from O'Hare.

I will call my local 7-11 to see if they have it as well. I'm so ready for a grape pop with a little zip to it.

Thanks Jimmy, I know where that store is located.
I use to work in Bensenville.
Again, Thanks

Just had a 20oz today. Here's my short n sweet review: Mtn Dew Pitch Black II is the same formula in the Darth Dew slurpee. It basically tastes like the original Pitch Black but with sourness added. (Imagine drinking the original PB through one of those sour coated straws they had with Hi-C juice pouches a while back) I must say I like it a lot more and it's currently my favorite soda. This might even top Pepsi Blue for me, something the first pitch black almost did, bu just missed 0_o Oh and I couldn't find it in any of the local convenience stores but I tried the local wegmans and they were loaded.

All I can say is that MDPBII is a awesome soda pop. I knew after my second gulp that my lust for this soda pop drastically turned into love.

I ended up going to Meijer and picked up a couple of 2ltrs for $0.98 and a ice cold 20oz. I,like any normal soda pop freak started to drink it as I was being checked out. I was so blown away by the tart (reminded me of a mild sour ball jawbreaker) after burner taste, I had to sit down and compose myself before going home.

The over all taste is pleasant with grape over tones yet it has a nice medium tart kick. As you can see, I really enjoyed myself this morning.

I got a 2 liter of this tonight, after a few drinks on ice I really liked it. My Pepsi distributor really respects my opinion on stuff, so he was glad to see I gave it my Seal Of Approval. It's definitely a unique soda, which is great!

I drank MDPBII ice cold in a tall glass tumbler full of ice this morning and this afternoon with food. I remain even more impressed. I find it to be a taste bud delight;grape soda pop drinkers who like to live on the wild side will dig it.

I saw it this past friday at Wal-Mart in Morehead, KY. I didn't realize what I saw until I had already left, so unluckily I didn't buy any. I looked for it in some conveinience stores but they don't have it yet. I can't wait to try some. It sounds good.

08-23-2005, 10:22 PM
I, too, love it. I've really missed Pitch Black and lately the only ones I could find were at an old gas station and they had expired Dec of 04...so what a joy it was to find it back, and even better this time!

08-24-2005, 09:22 PM
this stuff is great, i got is here in des moines wa. The finish is unique and refreshing

I'm anxious to try this stuff.

I was a Pitch Black freak last year, and constantly bought the stuff.

Interestingly, PBII isn't here in Virginia yet.

But I'm going back to DC in 2 days, so I bet it'll be there.

Really...I got some where I live in Franklin the week it came out, and we have the Newport News plant in town too, and that's where it came from.

i went to my local albetsons and they had it in 20oz, fridgepacks, and 2 liters. they hade 20oz 3for a dollar.

I saw Pitch Black II in Wal-Mart yesterday, in both fridge packs and 20 ounce bottles. Ended up picking up a 20oz. for 58 cents but had to put it in the fridge to chill until today. Upon the first sip, I caught the flavor of the first Pitch Black, which I have to admit I've missed since last year. The sourness quotient is just about right in my opinion; it helps add some zing to the grape flavor, which I think it needed. What's more, when I saw the fridge packs, I noticed that all the Pepsi fridge packs were on sale for 2 for $5. Needless to say, I'm probably gonna take advantage of that price and go for at least one fridge pack of Pitch Black II. The way the sequel tastes, I might just miss it more than I did the original whenever it phases out. As kind of an aside, the Pepsi guy was stocking the shelves when I saw the fridge packs, and I asked him if he'd tried PBII. He said that he had, and that it tastes good mixed with vodka. This whole PBII thing makes me wonder whether Holiday Spice will be coming back or not. The Doomite Is Out!

Here are some more detailed looks at the packaging that I shot:

Personally, I like this version over last year's. Better grape flavor and the sour aftertaste is uniquely different. My personal review (http://forums.tannerworld.com/showthread.php?t=6074), if anyone cares smile.gif

Yeah the packaging (especially the cans) look really cool.

As for taste, I prefer the original. But this is better than nothing.

What's next? Pepsi Holiday Spice II? Now with a sour bite!

Just found out that, like livewire's full release, New York will NOT be recieving Pitch Black 2.

thankfully i live minuites from both Jersey and Penn.

so with a 20oz and 2 12packs, i can safely say im happy and DEFINATELY enjoy this stuff. i Love the sourness, its really subtle and well done.

but once again Pepsi NY sucks ass.

08-29-2005, 12:50 PM
i just got 3 twelve-packs of the original pitch black from a discount foods store, one to drink and two to save. ahh how i love the sweet sweet flavor of pitch black. maybe now that PB2 is out i can have some of that instead of drinking all my PB1! i'm definetly stocking up on this stuff too. i wonder if next halloween they'll have a Pitchblack 3?

08-29-2005, 01:00 PM
im going to throw a can of pb and pbII into the fridge and do a back-to-backer.. just got the 12pack of pb2 last night andpulled out an old pb1 fridge pack..

i wonder if holiday spice will be back or not...

08-29-2005, 10:28 PM
I just tried pitch black 2 today and have to say I like it very much. I like better then the first one. smile.gif

08-29-2005, 11:03 PM
You don't need to do a back-to-back taste, it's simple as saying PB2 has the sour taste and PB1 doesn't. I've still got TWO fridgepacks of PB1 and like 3 20oz bottles of it.

08-30-2005, 04:32 PM
How come its not coming to NY? That sucks

Mr Zabe
08-30-2005, 05:30 PM
With the Big Three soda pop companies asking why a flavor is not being distributed in certain regions is like asking why do snow fairies only work during the winter months?

There for various reasons are no real answers other than independent bottlers run into production problems with the fringe flavors. They may get a variance and not produce these products or produce them on a more limited basis.

That's my arm chair, educated thinking. Please all you board experts, set me straight. TKS

I haven't seen anything beyond the regular and Code Red up here since last winter ... is all of upstate getting it?

08-31-2005, 11:04 AM
i live technically "upstate" in Orange County, and i know for a fact that this area, atleast from poughkeepsie / monticello on down to the jersey border doesnt have LiveWire, Grape tropicana twister, OR Pitch Black 2.

We did get livewires first release, and we got PB last year.

08-31-2005, 01:18 PM
I'm in Rochester. This whole region has Pitch Black 2. And Livewire 20oz. Someone cans it too I just can't figure out where it all goes.

08-31-2005, 04:18 PM
I'm in Long Island and cant find it anywhere

08-31-2005, 05:54 PM
Tried this today, and I love the sour kick. It's a lot better than I remember the original Pitch Black being.

By the way, has anybody seen the new graphics for Code Red and/or LiveWire yet?

08-31-2005, 07:06 PM
The sour kick is quite nice.
I really enjoyed this drink.

MDPBII at least for me,tastes good during first glass/cup full but the second serving takes off like a space rocket. I have an ice cold 2ltr in my fridge, I will not drink it until I can buy another one. I like to keep a back up for my A list soda pops. I know I have goofy soda pop habits. LOL
