Most of the problems IMO was with advertising them and too much expected in a short period of time, Surge anyone? I recall Red Fusion was pretty big in NY, but I never tried it.

And isn't Holiday Spice a limited time only product?

I'm not very suprised that just about every flavor extension out their, sans Cherry has failed. Everyone I have tastes JUST like the orignal soda.

UM, Pibb Xtra (Mr. Pibb) is a huge drink here, Dr Pepper is just that prune juice stuff, Sprite Remix is still here as well, Diet Coke with lemon (still here)Pepsi Twist,
It must be that your bottler is cutting down on their SKU's

Dr Pepper does not and never has had prune juice in it.

to name a few... I'd say most on this list did not fail at all, rather they were discontiued; some were sesonal, some are regional, others have changed their names.

Example:
Holiday Spice Pepsi- Very Sesonal.

Pepsi Twist- Still on sale in both lemon and lime (sugar version) in the Denver metro.

Mr. Pibb- Tweeked the formula, and called Pibb Xtra.

Minute Maid Orange was the main stay orange soda of Coke for years before the relaunch of FANTA.

Vanilla Coke. Out for 3+ years, launched a diet version with in months, and sold through out the world. Hardly a faliure, just had a sale decline to the point of putting a new product out.

Slice- The main stay "fruit" flavored drinks of Pepsi. Out for years. Hardly a faliure.

Coke 2 (new coke) that will be an argument for the ages.

I wouldn't say that Mr. Pibb, the Minute Maid sodas, and Slice were failures. They all had pretty long lifespans. I'm not sure if I agree about Sprite Remix either, because the three Remix flavors were all intended as limited editions.

And you can add Josta and OK Soda to the list.

Snapple had a soda line at one time, yeah? I recall that they were all clear sodas.

Here are some discontinued (though not necessarily "failed," depending on your definition) sodas in America:

Coke with sugar, Pepsi with sugar, Sprite with sugar, ..., etc. with sugar, etc. with sugar. Etc.

(Yeah, I know ... there are KFP exceptions and imports from other countries, but you know what I'm getting at.)

OK Soda.

IMO, people just weren't ready for it. In Freudian terms, it was what it was, abstract. People starting reading into it too much and when most consumers have to think, a product fails.

Tahitian Treat is still available (and oh so delicious!) in the Metro Detroit area. I have been drinking this ever since I can remember. Always a good alternative to Hawaiian Punch.

Tahitian Treat can still be found here and there in Wisconsin. If it's around, it's usually at small convenience stores. (20oz bottles)
