Ok; am I the only one preturbed about the "New" products that PepsiCo has been bringing out? The reason I bring this up is; I asked a question if Pepsi Holiday Spice would be out this year? This is the answer I got from PepsiPimp: "It looks as if we will be pushing Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash this year"!....WHAT?!?!? You expect this to be a BIG seller?!?! First of all if you intended this to be a "Holiday" flavor; you should've labeled it as so. Second..Its been done before! Mixing a lemon-lime pop with another fruit flavor has been done a BILLION times. BRING BACK HOLIDAY SPICE!!!!!
Now on with the other mistake; JAZZ! Why did they only bring it out in DIET? Everybody that know me (family and friends) knows that Im a PEPSI FREAK, know that I DON'T DRINK DIET! When they came to me and asked if I knew that Pepsi had two new flavors? Then I have to tell them "Yes, but its Diet Pepsi". You dont know how many arguments with people that it was Diet Pepsi. Then I have to bring up the website and show them that DIET PEPSI is very small in the middle of the label.
This was Pepsi's plan, so that people dont recognize that its Diet...Until they drink it, or stare at it! Its not even emphysized in the commericial that it's a diet cola. As I said in another thread; the flavors are good, but with it being diet they are bland and have a bad after-taste! I know they think they are doing the HEALTHY thing, but HEALTHY DOESNT SELL...especially with us die-hard fans!

First off, "healthy" does sell, whether you like it or not. You may be right in that diet sodas don't appeal to a lot of diehard soda fans, but believe me, there's definitely a market for them. I don't think the Jazz flavors have much of an aftertaste either, but that's just me.
And I can understand that you might miss Holiday Spice, but let's face it, Cranberry Splash will probably appeal more to the masses.
Hate to burst your bubble Dave but I think Pepsi's marketing department knows what it is doing. I know down here in S Fl. the Pepsi Holiday Spice was still in the stores February 1st. Perhaps it didn't move that well in other places as well.
Furthermore, I think the Sierra Mist with Cranberry is a great idea. Very seasonal to say the least. I'm sure it will make a great alcholic and non alcoholic mixer.
Pepsi Jazz is an attempt to gain wide spread acceptance of diet sodas without using the "diet" moniker. Studies show that men, more than women stay away from diet sodas due to the name alone. Pepsi Jazz is supposed to be an alternative to the "diet" drink.

Good,well designed,well flavored soda pops will sell whether they be diet or sugar! There is a healthy (major) market for diet soft drinks. Take Diet Doctor Pepper; now that is perhaps one of the all time best diet soft drinks.
My point is that just because your individual tastes are for sugar soft drinks does not negate the mega demand for the diet catagory.
By the way,I only drink sugar soda pops after years of drinking only diet soda pops. I do understand not enjoying diet soda pops. smile.gif

I enjoyed pepsi spice but it didn't sell worth a damn - we had to cut the price to a $1 a 12 pack just to get rid of it. Pepsi is doing the right thing getting in and out of flavor extensions like it will do with sierra mist cranberry splash. as for pepsi jazz, it is selling pretty good, which is fueled by the diet soda craze that is out there.
and i agree diet soda is gross - i'd rather drink water

First of all I think Pepsi made to much of "Holiday Spice" thats why they couldnt get rid of it. Most generally people dont Christmas flavored anything after the Holidays. Thats why it was hard to sell (granted I would drink Holiday Spice all the time). Just make enough for the general Holiday Season. Cranberry Splash sounds ho-hum to me, and as I said earlier; if its intended to be a "Holiday" flavor..Label it as such. Who cares about the mixed drink thing; there's Ocean Spray for that!

Not to be a smart ass but just like myself,we are both "arm chair lovers" of the soda pop industry. Why not state your notion as a question to the industry experts who lurk on this board?
You might be surprised to hear how other regions of the country have sold the various holiday soda pops. Just my two cents. smile.gif

Jazz is doing well in all the points I ahve talked to- though it has slowed down a bit since intro. Furthermore just like the rest of the board said, Diet is here to stay. Still I think the Mist xtension is at best a so-so idea and at worst a modertly bad choice concidering the stagnation in the brand (and you must remember this is Pepsi's #3 most promoted brand, and has seen even further expansion recently- despite very flat sales). I expect that some of the Jazz lineup will stabilize and create a solid market but needless to say this is- like many recent big 3 spinnioffs- a short term product which will be gone by the end of the the decade at the very latest.

There are almost 300 million people in this country - Pepsi would lose tons of money if they kept products around that only a few people bought.
With the recent product launches, most diet versions have done better than their HFCS counterparts. Near the end, Diet Vanilla Coke was way outselling regular. Coke w/ Lime can't hold a candle to Diet Coke w/ Lime. And I'm sure that Pepsi's counterpart products had similar sales results.
Canada Dry sells a ton of Cranberry Ginger Ale around the holidays around here - they build these massive displays and it's included in them. And in some areas, the CSAB bottler brings out the cranberry just for the holidays (it's year 'round in these parts). I think Cranberry Sierra Mist is a good move.
Apparently, you are the only one who's "preturbed."

I am with DAKOTADAVE on this 1.
Why do you agree with Dakota Dave? Do you think that Pepsi, Coke, Shasta, Diet Rite, Dr. Pepper etc. are in business to please the least amount of people?
Do you also agree that "because it has been done before" that Coke and/or Pepsi should not try it again. Cola w/lemon has been done before, cola w/vanilla had been done before, Why not try again and change the marketing.
Do agree with Dave that even though a products does not sell well that the manufacturer should continue to lose money on it again the next year?
Do you agree that Pepsi should have introduced a "diet" drink that is marketed as a regular drink in a regular version but market it as a diet drink?( Yeah, I got confused too).
The beverage industry is about VOLUME. Let Jones Soda and the likes worry about the niche markets and let Pepsi and Coke continue to serve the popular interest and taste of the American people.

I was not so much agreeing about the Christmas, Opps Holiday Packaging as I was about Pepsi hideing the Diet part of Jazz.
I read a thread a while back on BevNet from the homosexual (his screen name)about Dr Pepper adding artificial sweetner's 2 regular Dr Pepper in I think it was some part of Europe.
I am not used 2 any company coming out with a diet version and not a regular version untill pepsi did it soo blatently with Jazz this year, I do also recall jones doing it recently with lime and some other flavorthis year.
I know that soda company's R facing declining sales every year and have 2 do something about it BUT selling a Diet soda as a regular soda does not cut it with me.
I have read here on BevNet (my authority on all beverages,LOL)that traditional diet soda drinkers rarely like the new formulation's of diet drinks, while the non diet drinkers say they R not that bad.
When I worked 4 Pepsi I commented on a customers purchase of the new (at the time)Pepsi 1, "wow U must really like the new Pepsi", 2 which she stopped, feigned disbelief at my verbal intrusion in 2 her shopping experience, have U ever wished U could take back what U just said?
Well let's just say I was having 1 of those moments, she replied "no I hate that new Pepsi 1 I drink Diet Pepsi" against my better judgement I replied "well some 1 must like it U have 2 cases in you're cart", and she said she thought it was original Diet Pepsi.

Guys, the bottom line is that Pepsi introduced the Jazz items as diets because that's where the CSD growth is and has been for some time now. Additionally, the last few flavored cola releases have taught us that the regulars do not catch on as quickly (or have the same kind of staying power) as the diet variations. Greg said it in one word - volume. Sure, Pepsi could have introduced regular BCFV and S&C, but they would have quickly grown tired as Coke's regular BCV did. And it didn't take long for that to happen did it?!?
Look at the last few Dr Pepper entries. Yes, the created regular and diet versions of Cherry Vanilla and Berries and Cream...but it has been the diet versions that have really taken off.
I also don't know why people say Pepsi is hiding the fact that Jazz is diet...the products are called "JAZZ DIET PEPSI." The website is jazzdietpepsi.com - what's being hidden here? So the Diet Pepsi logo is small on the bottle, big deal...its another flavor extension of Diet Pepsi - but this lineup is named "Jazz" which is why that's the biggest text on the label.

Oh yeah, and Cranberry Mist is pretty tasty. We've had it here around the office for about a month now. I'm positive it will do well during the holidays...much better than Holiday Spice which turned out to be a disappointment in terms of sales.

I'm hearing it'll have the 20oz pricing, and other places I am hearing that it'll cost more.
I looked to see if MDX was still for sale in my area, and it is almost nonexistant.

At this point,IMO the price is not the main reason that MDX has done so poor. MDX IMO is stuck in a grey product catagory. Sports drinks (Gatorade & Powerade) along with traditional Energy Drinks have established market shares. MDX does not fit into either catagory.
IMO MDX is more like a soda pop than anything else. IMO Pepsi made a major market assumption (quasi energy sports drink) that failed miserably.

I thought MDX was sold as an Energy Soda, not a Energy sports drink?
I wasn't accusing the pricing as the number one factor, but you pay so much... for so little.

Coke did a similar thing with Powerade Advance (sports drink with energy drink ingredients) which also tanked.
The price of MDX dropped to $1.29 in Food Lion at the end.

I work for pepsi cola in NJ. The MDX is going to a 20 oz and going to be the same price as the other 20 oz pepsi products. Holiday spice was a horrable seller. The new mist is selling great. Word is that Pepsi os going to launch diet Raspberry Pepsi (no regular). Aslo thay are looking to get rid of Regular pepsi w/lime.

I haven't heard the diet Raspberry...though I know of a new Jazz flavor coming next year (which is not rasp). Its time to kill Lime IMO.
I can concur and confirm, MDX will be line priced with other 20oz CSD (supposed to be anyways).

Hmmm... maybe I might buy MDX again. Just one thing holding it back.
There was ingredient in MDX, along with a few other drinks that my tongue picks up, and it is pretty much the only thing I taste when I drink these drinks. :(
I've tasted it in drinks ranging from MD AMP, to Unsweetened Nestea (Coke) from a fountain, and Mello Yello. Some one suggested BVO... but I doubt it.
i wish cranberry splash wasnt just for the holidays, i love it.im saving a 12 pack and some 2 liters so when its gone i can drink some cans save some cans and sell like 2 on ebay.

I'm not normally a Pepsi drinker, but I love the Cranberry Splash. Bought a 2 liter to start and looked all over for a 12 pack of the stuff

Holiday Spice (as a whole) sold a fraction of what Mist Cranberry did within the first month of its release...we couldn't give away Holiday Spice if we tried. It looks like Pepsi DEFINITELY made the right decision on the holiday flavor for this year.
