According to a recent article in the AJC, Vanilla Coke will be coming back this year, along with Vanilla Coke Zero (no word if it's going to be Diet Coke or Coke Zero based, though I suspect the latter).

"The company also has plans for a Vanilla Coke Zero that will be rolled out with the reintroduction later this year of Vanilla Coke, which was put on "hiatus" in 2005 after sales plummeted."

oh and here's a link to the article fusion mentions. It's a good little read: 'Coke is it' for CEO, and sales bubble up | ajc.com (http://www.ajc.com/business/content/business/coke/stories/2007/03/10/0311bizpop.html)

Thanks for the link, jblaviback!

No doubt that from Ivester, Daft and Isdell... Isdell is the one who is making a good job as The Coca-Cola Company's CEO

This is GREAT news! Especially since I am on my last 12 pack of Vanilla Coke. I stocked up right before they stopped carrying it.

Vanilla Coke is still in some soda fountains in the US so I dont think the brand was ever "fully" discontinued.

Anyways I can't wait till Vanilla Coke is back on store shelves.

is it going to be a "reformulated" flavor?

i hope so!!!

to a lot of us, the old version just tasted too artificial and not like REAL vanilla.

I don't think they're going to mess with it, and I wouldn't want them to either. I like the taste of Vanilla Coke. If I want a "real" vanilla flavor, I can easily get regular Coke with a vanilla flavor shot.

But w00t!! to Vanilla Coke coming back, and I can't wait to try Vanilla Coke Zero.

I tried one of the sample 20 ounce from our sales center and it tasted like the old Vanilla Coke to me

i wonder why they discontinued it... only to re-introduce it as the same thing. seems like it would cost them money.

Probably because they realized it has a considerable following even if it's not a huge seller, and also because Black Cherry Vanilla was a flop from day one.

The diet version will be replaced with a Coke Zero-based version, from what I am hearing.

I hope they bring it back. But I never thought they would re-introduce it though.

I hope the flavor is improved. I wondered why mixing a shot of vanilla syrup in a coke is so delicious, while the bottled Vanilla Coke tasted incredibly nasty and artificial.

i agree. i hope they fix the flavor too. i thought it was pretty nasty... too artificial. maybe they'll get it right this time.

The "World of Coca-Cola" museum had Vanilla Coke at the fountain as of last month when I was there, so they either were previewing the re-release, or never fully discontinued it. (They also have Tab at the fountain, and the gift shop is full of Tab merchandise!)

I bought Black Cherry Vanilla Coca-Cola quite often when it was available, and liked it. It was definitely better than the regular (non-Diet) Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper, which tasted like cough syrup! (However, Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper was surprisingly good, especially at covering up its own aspartame aftertaste.)

Me too. I can always make a "real" Vanilla Coke, but the bottled version had its own charm.

what i don't understand is why coke discontinued it... only to bring it back a year later. doesn't that cost the bottlers money?

i can only assume that they'll rejigger the taste a little bit.

Actually, Vanilla Coke has been gone for about 1.5 years. Consumer demand is probably a fair amount of the reason why it came back, plus lackluster sales for Black Cherry Vanilla.

I would imagine it does cost some extra money to introduce (or reintroduce) a brand. You have to build up enough inventory to put initial orders in accounts, which means you need enough concentrate and packaging materials on hand to do so.

I imagine there will be a fair amount of buzz around the reintroduction, but nothing like we saw the first time around. The stuff was literally flying out of coolers everywhere when it first came out.

RECYCLING OF COKE PRODUCTS & MARKETING is a global trend, I think it is an environmentally good practice.

Hate to tell you..

With great fanfare they brought back vanilla coke and added vanilla coke zero in July 2007...in most areas of the USA it lasted about 3 months...

In the NYC area, I haven't seen any vanilla coke or vanilla coke zero since last November, at least in 2 liter bottles...for a while fridge packs of 12 cans of coke zero vanilla were available but I haven't seen any of that in the last couple of months either.

Unfortunately, you cannot get an answer from them whether this is a local issue or they have decided against vanilla coke and vanilla zero.

I just picked up a 12 pack here in Houston. The vending machine at University of Houston Clear Lake has it in 12oz. cans. It hasn't disappeared here yet.

I still see Vanilla Coke in 20 oz. bottles sometimes. Zero has been relegated to 12-packs though.

I see Vanilla Coke at a few c-stores, esp. at Stop & Go (Shell) by Wal-Mart.
