Its that time of year again! Passover starts on April 9th this year. As in the past here is a quick rundown for anyone who doesn't know, why many people get excited over this.

If anyone doesn't know what it is, it is when Coke starts to produce Coke with REAL sugar instead of HFCS. They do this for the Jewish holiday of Passover, which you are not allowed to eat certain food items such as corn syrup, because of this Coke produces Coca-Cola and Sprite in 2L and sometimes in cans that have real sugar in it. You can tell Passover Coke from Regular Coke because it has yellow caps and has a KP on it or another kosher symbol with a P after it. They usually only produce them around cities with a fairly large Jewish population but most fairly big cities in the US (New York, Chicago, LA, Miami, etc.) have them.

Within the next few weeks, it will start showing up in stores!

To clarify a few things brought up in past years:
1. Throughout the whole year, corn syrup is kosher and therefore most sodas are kosher. Passover coke doesn't mean that it is now kosher- it means that it is able to be consumed on passover. See Chametz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for more information
2. As in past years the only major sodas that are Kosher for Passover are:Coke, Sprite, Pepsi and Sierra Mist, as well as some diet varieties of these, although the diet passover versions are the same as the regular versions throughout the year
3. You probably will not have to go into a special Jewish store to find it, although it can be helpful
4. In past years cans of it have been sold in 6 packs NOT 12 packs
5. No mycokerewards

Man, I am glad I live in Texas where you can find Coke from Mexico made with real sugar in almost every grocery and convenience store.

AzRocks, thanks for once again starting this "clearinghouse" topic on all things Kosher Coke :)

Just an FYI, here in the Chicago area, I've been able to consistently find both Kosher Coke (http://www.bevreview.com/2006/04/07/review-review-kosher-for-passover-coke/) and Kosher Pepsi (http://www.bevreview.com/2007/04/04/review-kosher-for-passover-caffeine-free-pepsi/) on the North Shore at Hungarian Kosher Foods (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Hungarian+Kosher+Foods&ie=UTF8&hl=en&sll=42.026455,-87.730149&sspn=2.792088,27.488042&latlng=42026455,-87730149,15442501928851193951&ei=0DajScbcCoiKNObPjOAP&cd=1) in Skokie. I know you can find it elsewhere, but it's pretty much guaranteed to always be at this location.

Bingo!!! Hungarian Kosher Foods is an all Kosher store that will have it for sure.

When should one start looking for Passover Coke?

I would say start looking in about a week and half to two weeks. Depending where you are, it might not get to to you until later though.

Around here (Columbia, SC) the Publix in Trenholm Plaza has had Passover Coke in the past, and I don't see why they wouldn't again this year.

Did those Boston area stores have Passover Coke in cans, or just 2 Liter bottles?

Does anyone know when exactly the passover Coke should start showing up in stores? I checked earlier this week, but wasn't able to find any.

In general KP soda pops show up about a week or a few days before the beginning of Passover.
I would check around the 3rd day before the holiday.

I found Kosher Coke 2-liters in Cincinnati today, at the Kroger on Kenard Ave in the Clifton area. Yellow caps, in the International section (near front entrance).

Kosher Coca-Cola can be found in 2 liter bottles at Acme Markets in the Philadelphia area. I'm enjoying a glass right now with some Swedish Noodles.

Oh and, hi, I'm new!

I've found it at many Stop and Shop and Shaw's stores in the greater boston area. I did get a response from Pepsi customer service that Kosher for Passover Pepsi will not be available from any New England Pepsi bottlers.

Any sightings in the Washington DC metro area? I've been to about 8 different grocery stores in PG county, no luck thus far.

2 liter Kosher Coke (yellow cap) available now at Giant Eagle on Murray Ave., Squirrel Hill (big surprise). It is outside of entrance in patio in front. Also at Giant Eagle Robinson Twp. on Steubenville Pike in World food section, not with regular Coke.

Believe me, you can taste the difference.

I picked up my stash of 2L bottles at the Stop & Shop located at 495 Southern Artery in Quincy, MA, just outside of Boston.
Their special Passover section was stocked Coca-Cola and Diet Coke in the plastic bottles as well as Dr. Brown's Black Cherry and Cream Soda in both 1L bottles and 6 pack cans.
Coke 2 liter bottles and the Dr. Brown's 1 liters are both on sale this week for $1 at Stop & Shop locations in and around Boston.

I found it in Charleston, SC...along with Kosher Sprite, which I had not seen before.

I understand why Coke and Sprite need Kosher versions - the carbonation acts as a leavening agent with the corn syrup.

However, I honestly don't get why they need Kosher for Passover Diet Coke. Anyone care to share some insight into that for me?

The reason for the KFP Diet Coke, is that it needs to have a sepeare production line to make sure it doesnt come into contact with HFCS. No difference in the forumlation though...

I hit Hungarian Kosher Foods (Skokie, IL) over the weekend and they had 2-liter Kosher Coke and 2-liter Caffeine Free Kosher Pepsi. They also had 6-pack cans of Kosher Pepsi with the new logo design, notably labeled with a "New York" at the top of the can.

Still nothing on the MD side, either.

I guess they just didn't send any to the DC metro area this year...

I was able to find some at the Safeway in Dupont Circle...I had checked Giant in Rockville and Rodman's in Wheaton with no luck, but my wife happened to see it at Safeway on a random trip last week.

If anyone has a Publix in your area, check there. In the Nashville, TN region they're the only chain that is selling the Passover Coke this year (only in 2 Liter form).

On a side note, the Sam's Clubs in the Nashville area are also selling 6-pack glass bottles (15 oz. size I believe) of sugar Coke in cases of 24 (4 six packs).

Man, I am glad I live in Texas where you can find Coke from Mexico made with real sugar in almost every grocery and convenience store.

I've had Mexicoke and it beats HFCS hands down. But I've also got access to sucrose coke made in the Allentown PA bottler. It puts mexicoke to shame, much tastier and bold flavor.

Looking forward to sampling Passover coke this year. Off to find the 2010 thread.
