I had heard that these were coming, but not that they were going to be made with real sugar (cane or beet, that is the real question). The guys I got the info from were a little confused as to why Wild Cherry was being reintroduced, now it makes perfect sense.

I'd love to try the flavored Pepsis w/ real sugar, especially the vanilla one. Regular Pepsi is already available with real sugar here, it's called Throwback.

I really hope that Pepsi Canada is listening as to bringing these flavours more so Pepsi Vanilla for sure! Or I will have to drive to Montana to get some and it's no short trip for me but I have done it many times making it into a mini vacation. Pepsi Vanilla is my favourite flavour next to 80's New Coke that will never be back.

I get my sucrose Cherry Coke from ABARTA Lehigh Valley. A little bit of it trickles down to their Coatesville PA territory from the main plant in Bethlehem.

But I was just up that way last Saturday and there was very little Bethlehem produced product. Most of the cans were from Baltimore and the 2 liters/1 liters from Philadelphia. I wonder what that is all about. I was lucky enough to find some Vanilla Coke and CF Coke 12 packs with sucrose and they had some KP Coke 2 liters mixed in with the hfcs stuff. Bethlehem doesn't make 8pk 12oz or 6pk 16.9oz.

Abarta also produces cans for Davis Beverage (DPS bottler). All their stuff was in stock, and they now make Canada Dry cranberry ginger ale in cans. Previously I had only seen it in 2 liters. Honickman is making it in 20oz now, too, and it is in Wawas.

I am still looking forward to the sucrose Wild Cherry for comparison. I notice they have updated the graphics on the bottles and cans of the regular, and you can now find mini cans as well. I just think that the Pepsi flavors looked better in dark blue compared to the new lighter blue.

I like the new lighter blue cans although I think of Pepsi Next when I see them.

The Pepsi is most likely just Throwback repackaged. I haven't seen the cherry and vanilla anywhere yet.

Just got off the phone with the local Pepsi warehouse. Said they don't come out until next week.

It looks like Pepsi is going the Subway route of showing commercials with players of sports they are not the official sponsors of. Subway showcased commercials with Michael Phelps and Apolo Ohno and now Pelé while McDonalds is the official restaurant sponsor of both the Olympics and the World Cup and now Pepsi is showing commercials with fútbol star Lionel Messi during the World Cup on ESPN while Coca Cola is the official beverage sponsor of the World Cup. I saw a version of this commercial that showcased Pepsi with real sugar (not called Throwback) at the end but could only find the version that showcased Pepsi Wild Cherry at the end on You Tube.

Still have not found it in New England. I agree with another persons comment, they should have added Pepsi Twist to the mix as well.

512I found it this morning at the Wegmans in Frederick, MD. They only had two packs of each flavor. Plus the Wild Cherry was in glass bottles. I have not tried it yet. It's cooling in the ice box at work.

The graphics look really good. The color of the vanilla box works really great with them, gives you an authentic retro feel.

Though I am more psyched about the Wild Cherry in glass bottles. I will definitely have to keep my eyes peeled for that.

I'll be making a few stops looking for these today, for sure. Too bad we don't have Wegmans near here, the closest ones are an hour+ away - though they are in the planning stages of building one much closer. Still could be a few years off, at this rate. They seem more apt to take specialty packages like the 4 pack glass bottles. The independent Pepsi distributor in northeastern MD may or may not be carrying the 12 packs, the guys I have talked to weren't sure. They do finally have Dr Pepper Vanilla Float now.

Walmart in Evendale, OH has Vanilla in 7.5oz 8packs. Walmart in Miamisburg, OH has throwback with the updated packaging (1940s logo) in 12packs. Meijer near Miamisburg, OH had 2 12packs of Vanilla and 2 12packs of Wild Cherry. I took the 2 Wild Cherry. :) They also had throwback with updated packaging in 7.5oz 8packs.

Still can't find Wild Cherry in glass bottles anywhere yet. I will probably hit up Jungle Jim's after work, they always seem to have everything, even if it sometimes takes a while.

fusion
06-19-2014, 08:31 PM
Jelly that you live so close to Jungle's that it an ordinary stop for you.

I haven't found mini cans or glass bottles of either.

I did try a vanilla right out of the box and it was pretty darn good. I always thought Pepsi's vanilla flavor tasted better than Coke's, and the addition of real sugar brings it home.

tsc40oz
06-19-2014, 09:26 PM
Yeah, Jungle Jim's is about 10 minutes from my house. It's nice and also dangerous, easy to spend a lot of money there. Over the years I'm pretty sure I've tried almost every glass bottle soda they have, and that's quite a lot. Unfortunately, they didn't have any of the new stuff yet. I think my area just simply hasn't received anything yet. Going to wait a week or two and try again.

Threw a can of cherry in the freezer when I got home, it's lovely. And the Vanilla is pretty good too, I agree. I think it would go well with whiskey. :)

Pepsi Vanilla is my favourite flavour next to 80's New Coke that will never be back.
It theoretically could come back in the Freestyle machines. I've heard that New Coke (aka Coke II) used the Diet Coke formula - if that is true, since the Freestyle has the sweeteners in separate cartridges, it would be possible to make it an option using the Diet Coke and the HFCS cartridges.

Had a chance to try the new real sugar Pepsis... The vanilla is quite good. I expected the cherry to be stronger, but it is still decent. The berry punch Crush tastes like a blue raspberry fruit punch.

Pepsi cherry has long gotten it's ass eaten by coke cherry. No comparison really. I am hoping for a coke cherry with sugar. Tried the pepsi cherry with sugar and was mehed. Will still try the vanilla.

And a new Crush? Hmmm.

Edit: apparently it's blue onefied. Will try very little of this.

Saw the new 12 pack cans for the real sugar cherry and vanilla Pepsi and needless to say this is by far the best packaging for Pepsi I have seen in a while. Very clean and sleek looking design. The 12pack boxes look a lot like copy cats from Coke's design tho. I have yet to try them..waiting to find a store with them on sale.

Finally found Wild Cherry in glass bottle 4packs. I've hit many stores over the last week looking for them, can't wait to try them out tonight.

BTW, all of the Pepsi, Pepsi Wild Cherry, Mountain Dew, and Dr. Pepper glass bottles in my area have 'WV1' bottling code. Hadn't seen it mentioned before.

fusion
06-25-2014, 03:26 PM
WV1 isn't a bottling code. It's a beverage tax code. West Virginia charges a small beverage excise tax. It's on there because it is easier to just put it on there than not, in case the package is distributed in WV.

Finally got a cheap discount along with the weekly sale. A nice $2.00 off with the purchase of (2) 12 pack of real sugar pepsi coupons. They ended up being $1.50 each :). Needless to say I definitely like the taste over the regular HFCS soda easily. Much smoother taste to me.

Haven't seen it in Wyoming yet... which is odd, the LOBO usually pushes Pepsi special products. I was down in N. Colorado yesterday though and it's all over the place ... 12 packs and 20oz singles. I bought a couple of 12 packs... not bad. I saw the Pepsi real sugar as well, but passed when I saw it was the no-citric-acid Throwback ingredients list.

I just got off the phone with Albertson's in Shelby and Great Falls Montana, for all three of the new Pepsi Real Sugar flavours 12-pack cans and 20ounce bottles are on shelves now. I'm planning to take a quick vacation from central Alberta and will stock up. I'm hopping to find Tab 12-packs too. I also hope glass bottle six or four packs of Dr.Pepper and MTN DEW originals with real sugar. I looked online Walmart USA website and it says there are new MTN DEW flavours too(Pitch Black, Typhoon, Game Fuel, Dark Berry) Dark Berry and Game Fuel might not be around till after summer as DB is associated with video game release of new Batman Arkam game release in October and GF associated with new Halo XBOX ONE release in November. No idea about Typhoon flavour if there now or later.

I think I've ran across all the variations in my area now. Original Throwback in new labels (though many places still have Throwback packaging) in 12oz 12packs, 7.5oz 8packs (only seen once) and 20oz bottle. Wild Cherry in glass bottle 4packs, 12oz 12packs (both 6x2 and 4x3 layout) and 7.5oz 8packs. Vanilla in 12oz 12packs (both 6x2 and 4x3 layout) and 7.5oz 8packs. I've stocked up on glass bottles and 12packs for the LTOs.

Do Pepsi Wild Cherry with Real Sugar and Pepsi Vanilla with Real Sugar have Citric Acid in their ingredients?

Yes, they both have Citric Acid listed as an ingredient. The normal (Throwback) does not.

Okay I finally seen it show up in central Wyoming... looks like Admiral Beverages ran these out of their Utah facility instead of Worland where the Throwback is produced. 7/3 born-on date.

One thing I found interesting is the expiration date on the Cherry 12-packs, it's only 5 months. Normal Throwback is 9 months...
