I'm trying to get a feeling for some of the greatest or most unusual things to happen to our favorite beverage in the past 100 years (I might be writing a book.):

Here's a few to get started:

- The invention of the crown cork bottle seal in 1892 (the first successful method for keeping the bubbles in the bottle for long periods of time)

- The first vending machines are unveiled (1920's - dispensing soda into cups)

- Diet Coke introduced in 1982

Oh - I just realized I said "past 100 years" and then included a highlight from 1892. Feel free to comment on the past 1,000 years!

Where to start! I'm a gadget geek so here's my two cents from the production side:

- 1819 - Soda fountain invented, bringing soda into stores and establishments across the nation at the press of a button (or two).

- 1965 - Resealable top invented - have some now, save some for later!

- 1990? - Home soda maker invented - Soda-Club ( Soda-Club Home Soda Maker ) brings the beauty of fizzy flavored water into milllions of homes across the globe. From a gadget geek standpoint, this one should be number one.

Diet Rite was introduced in 1958 by the Royal Crown Co. as the first diet soft drink. With this revolutionary introduction, health-conscious soft drink lovers were finally given a choice consistent with their lifestyle - a great-tasting cola with no calories, sodium or caffeine.

Not entirely true, as Pabst had Tap a Cola a non fattening cola before 1955 this add was run on may 22 1955 the cans are also shown in a picture from 1954 but I don't have a good copy of that picture.


But you are correct about the imitator coke!

Speaking of Pabst, they haven't aired a commercial on TV since the 80s it seems like.
