Im a big Madonna fan, I've seen her lots of times in concert.I have a bigger collection of hers than I do Coke stuff.I even know where she lives in London, (I love the fact she lives in the same country as me)
Anyways where was I?, ah yes do you remember this Pepsi promotion?
In the Uk, the ad aired on ITV and even had an ad promoting the actual ad!!!! A first for the UK I think. Then it was pulled, after 1 airing. Do any of you guys recall the controversy? (US/UK/the World?)
The song was LIKE A PRAYER and she kept her fee too! [img]smile.gif[/img]

I remember it. There was actually nothing offensive about the commercial at all. The ad was pulled because the actual 'Like a Prayer' video debuted the next day on MTV...and it wasn't exactly rated G Pepsi crapped their pants to distance themselves from the song.

$5M wasn't chump change. But had you asked Pepsi about it, you might get an answer like "Madonna? Madonna, who? Like a Prayer? No comprende!" And who could blame them? You were on top of the soft drink and advertising world one night, and potentially offending half of your customers by the next day.

I also remember that ad, it appeared in Mexico too, but in black & white, and I saw it again at the giant screen of the Pepsi stand at Espacio 2005, a fair for university students that the mexican TV company Televisa organizes every year, in that giant screen they were playing all the most important ads in the history of Pepsi from the 80's to the present...

The funny thing is that now she's drinking Kabbalah spring water and energy drinks instead of Pepsi...

I remember at the time, I wished she'd advertised Coke(as I collected coke and not pepsi)lol.
There were some Madonna/Pepsi cans released in Germany, I think, to promote the Like A Prayer World Tour, which didnt happen because of the controversy.

didn't pepsi think to view the actual video BEFORE hiring madonna? i mean, she was already pretty infamous BEFORE the commercial.

also, from what i understand, she drank diet coke at the time... but, apparently, coke said "no way"...
