Ok....just my soda pop freak prediction.
Coke and Pepsi will roll out sugar cane cola some time before
December 2007. First quarter 2008, the mass soda pop cola
drinkers will demand sugar cane soft drinks. HFCS sweetened soda
pop will slowly fad away.
Consumers will be willing to pay a little more for sugar cane.
In a goofy way, the soda pop market will have a reverse Coke II
reaction. The soda pop market will boom, consumers will get what
they want (better tasting sugar cane) drinks, the Big Three will
make higher profits based on increased volume and higher profit margins.
Win win.
Don't worry, be happy. Meher Baba

If they do, it will have little to do with premium pricing, and more to do with the rising costs of corn and corn byproducts.
In 2008, the limits on sugar imports from Mexico to the US will be lifted, so there will be an abundant supply of cheaper sugar, and the US sugar producers will also have to lower their prices to compete (or go out of business).

I wonder if/how much Jones' decision to switch from corn sludge to cane sugar has affected their sales so far?

Well, I only have to drive an hour away to get Classic, Caffeine Free, Cherry, and Vanilla Coke with cane sugar, at normal prices! But I'd still love to see cane sugar become the standard sweetener again.
