As Mr. Zabe mentioned, McDonald's Sweet Tea has rolled out here in the Chicago area. It's being branded as
Mickey D’s Sweet Tea, but I think most folks will still just call it McDonald's Sweet Tea
Being a Chicagoan all my life, I can't say that I really know what a good sweet tea should taste like, so I tapped into a friend of mine who grew up on the stuff (and is originally from South Carolina) to help with a
sweet tea beverage review.
He felt it wasn't as sweet or strong in tea flavor as it should have been, but was a decent shot at attracting a broad market, which is obviously what McD's is attempting to do here. It's probably going to be an uphill battle for acceptance of the drink is markets that aren't used to the concept of sweet tea.
It should be noted that in all of its marketing materials and inaugural $1 pricing, McDonald’s is pushing the 32 oz. size, which according to their nutritional info, is the "Large" and packs 230 calories. I'm not really sure about the sugar content, as that info hasn't been specifically provided, but if I read what info they do provide correctly, it's probably around 59g of sugars for the 32 oz. size.
