They are thiner and grippy-er. Is it a save the plastic save the world kinda thing? Or is it a hey our bottles are grippy and so are our caps!??

In Mexico those caps are now in the 600 ml bottles now, but only in the Coca-Cola FEMSA territories... so in Aguascalientes (CONTAL territory) we still have the regular caps right now...

It's a part of the whole "our bottles are gripp-y" change. Some bottlers got the new bottles but kept the old caps for a while. College Park GA, Montgomery AL, Mobile AL, and Birmingham AL all recently switched (finally).

These caps are smaller to reducing the amount of plastic needed to produce them. The height of the bottles has been reduced too. When you consider the number of bottles produced every year, the savings in materials and costs are significant. I've seen them on the 500-ml bottles and imagine that they will soon be showing up on the 1, 1.5, and 2L bottles soon. I like the way the shortened bottles look, and while they're a bit harder to grip, my only gripe with these caps is that the mycokerewards codes are harder to read due to their liners .

I thought the deal was that the caps had a similarity to traditional glass bottle metal caps, that the "grips" were just faux folds found on an oldtime crown.

BTW, in my CCBCC area the caps are all out, except for black. Apparently they have a lot of old black caps on hand.

Where do you live? All the stuff that comes from SY (most of the black caps : Coke Zero, VAULT 16.9oz 6pk, Country Breeze) and they haven't switched yet.
