I picked up some 12 packs of Pepsi & Mountain Dew Throwback at K Mart where it is on sale this week for $2.50. I also saw 12 packs at Shaw's grocery stores in the Boston area and I saw only 20 oz bottles at Walmart.
I much prefer Coke to Pepsi, but I liked the Throwback because, unlike others, I found it to be LESS sweet than regular HFCS Pepsi.
My friend who is a huge Pepsi drinker commented the Throwback is less syrupy than the HFCS stuff and is more Coke-like to his tastebuds.

I found they were both sweeter and smoother. I really liked them both

It has shown up at the Wallys-Mart on route 26 in Frederick, Maryland. Both the Mountain Dew and the Pepsi. Cans and Plastic Bottles. The Mountain Dew tastes great. I was really surprised. The M.D. was different tasting and better than the regular version. The cans look cool to. They need more of this type of thing.

Made it to Colorado.
Bought the Pepsi and Mountain Dew. The dew was ok, but the Pepsi was terrible. My first thoughts were "This doesn't taste like Pepsi." I was expecting the flavor of a Kosher for Passover or Mexican Pepsi. What I tasted was more like a store brand cola. It seems they tweeked the taste slight. A huge dissapointment.

The Pepsi Throwback initially hit me with a smooth natural sweetness, but then I tasted undertones and an aftertaste of chemical bitterness, similiar to artificial sweeteners. Tried it in both the plastic bottle and can versions.
My wife, who is a staunch Pepsi fan, didn't care for Pepsi Throwback either and commented that it tasted closer to Coca-Cola than Pepsi. She actually likes Passover Coke better than Pepsi Throwback.
On the other hand, I love the Mountain Dew Throwback! It's smooth and well-balanced. Much better than the HFCS version IMO.

for those of you who aren't impressed with the taste of pepsi throwback so far, it could simply be that your taste buds aren't used to the new sweetener (sugar) yet. our palates adjust somehow.
it's the same thing with diet soft drinks. i liked coke zero from the beginning, but still tasted a little aftertaste in the beginning... but, now, it tastes just like regular coke to me.
my point is... if you stick to drinking the throwbacks and stay away from hfcs drinks, the throwbacks might start to taste better to you. either that or... hfcs just tastes better. lol

I personally think the stuff tastes great. It's selling quite well too. It's funny how close the the dew throwback tastes like West Jefferson glass Mountain Dew. Now if only we could get some Pepsi in glass around here.
