Already? Wow. Looks like a Safeway endcap.
Too bad it looks ugly with the ripped tape ends.

In many canning plants, rather than upgrading the machinery to handle single fridge packs, they "fool" the machine into thinking it's a slab 24 pack by taping them together before they are palletized. The tape is supposed to be perforated, so they rip apart cleanly by hand. But as you can see, that isn't always the case. They usually offset the tape, so it's closer to one end than the other. You grab the 2 12 packs from the end furthest from the tape, and pull apart. The force is supposed to break the tape cleanly down the middle.
It's just so time consuming to have to break down every pallet that is taped together, so most plants switched out the tape machine for a glue machine. They put 5 dabs of quick drying glue on one of the 12 packs, and when the two meet, they stick together. And the glue isn't especially strong, so customers can easily pull 12 packs apart on displays (we still pull them apart when stocking the shelves).
You can see the tape on the top of that Caffeine Free Diet Coke box. Look near the front of the top, over the D in Diet. The tape extends back to the "top" of the big can picture.
Unfortunately, even though we don't get taped 12 packs anymore, the 8 packs of 8 ounce cans do come taped, three together, and only on top. So sometimes they get torn when the warehouse picks them, or in transportation to the store. It's easiest to just cut them apart with a box cutter, because the tape will usually just rip on you.

Ornament bottles should be hitting Wal-Marts soon, if not already. This year, they've included Sprite and Diet Coke in the program. Two Coke ornaments, and one Sprite and one Diet Coke.

Diet Coke has big snowflakes on it.
Is Coke Zero getting the holiday treatment this year?
