Default So much for the "real sugar" trend

It was awesome while it lasted...

Sugar Beet Beatdown: Engineered Varieties Banned : NPR

It appears sugar beet farmers are having some pretty major legal issues right... which might lead to some major sugar shortages and higher prices next year.

I'm guessing, this last round of Pepsi/Dew Throwback might be it for awhile.

This sugar beat issue has nothing to do with the science of beat farming.
IMO, it is a matter of big lobby politics to safe guard big business interests.

Does this help Coke since they didn't jump on the real sugar band wagon. What will happen to natural sugar sierra mist if sugar prices are high but the product is doing well?

    This issue is about politics.

The environmentalists want to ban genetically modified crops in any way that they can. This issue of protecting organic sugar beet farmers is just a vehicle to try to ban a modified crop. Because this ruling would have a dramatic effect on the sugar industry, the EPA can grant a temporary allowance for the crops to be planted. Will the EPA do that? The current administration strongly favors the environmentalist point of view.
