animalism, do you work for the FDA?
For additional info. on how the FDA works hand in hand with Corporations:
"In April of 1981, Dr. Arthur Hayes became the new Commissioner [of the FDA]. Searle applied again for approval of aspartame. A few months later, Dr. Hayes approved aspartame for use in dry foods. In 1983, he approved aspartame for use in diet soft drinks (The Deadly Deception 14-15). One month later, Dr. Hayes left the FDA and within three months he was working for Searle's advertising agency, Burson-Marsteller (Farber 53)."
The Deadly Deception is a book. Farber is the author of an article in Technology Review about aspartame.
Thank you though for your detailed account of "government speak"... but have you ever heard of patronage appointments? The Corporate World and Governmental Bodies are not mutually exclusive. Didn't Fox News decide who was elected President in the last election?
And by "slam dunk" do you mean "a sure way to make money" or "for the benefit of the American People"?
Many of us (especially those of us who don't live in the States) seek alternative means of getting the news in order that we prevent ourselves from living in a bubble. The Guardian UK is a good site with an interesting article on how the Sugar "Lobby" is trying to stronghold the WHO into recommending that 25% of our diets should be from sugar!!!

A very good example of how companies get together and lobby with coercion for policies that would undermine the health of the entire world's population.
