Is there a way to read the letters or symbols on glass bottles that would give you the date or year that it was made??

Most bottles that I have, well the old returnable bottles anyway, they have the date imprinted on the bottom. It's usually a 2-digit number like 72 or I have also seen on the bottom 197-2, which is of course 1972. If there is no date on the bottom, all you can do is estimate.

A lot of soda companies nowadays code date their drinks. Especially store brand drinks. The only way to really figure it out is to ask one of their company representatives. That's what I did when I found a *very* old can of Kick soda at a local store. A Dr Pepper sales rep read the code date and determined that it was about 7 years out of date. I'm glad I didn't drink it before asking him.
