    Hi guys,

Diet Crystal Pepsi is the reason I ask this question. I would really, really, like to have some of that again.

I've seen it occasionally on e-bay, usually in bottles. Now, I know that there's not a chance that it would be any good in a bottle after all this time, but what about aluminum cans?

Is it possible that it would would still be drinkable if I could find some unopened cans, even if they're 10 or 15 years old, with no loss of carbonation or altering of the taste?

I would appreciate any information on this topic.

    Thank you.

Not only do I doubt they would be drinkable, I wonder if they would even be safe. There is a contingent (probably the same ones as the ones who wear tin foil hats) who think aluminum exposure can lead to Alzheimer's Disease...

So, I take it that there could be some sort of chemical interaction with the aluminum after all that time, huh? Pretty unhealthy I guess?

What about the plastic bottles? Would they be safer?

And would they be flatter than roadkill after all that time?

You know, I would not reccommend drinking an old can of .diet soda. It just does not have a shelf like like regular soda does. It will be in fact "flatter than roadkill". Even a Diet Coke that expried 2 weeks prior tastes flatter than roadkill.

Try finding a can of regular Crystal Pepsi instead. Sorry.

My arm chair guess is that soda pop (sweetened with corn syrup) after the use by date will start to slowly change in flavor. It depends how the soda pop is stored as to how fast this happens.

For sure a soda pop in a bottle will not kill you a few months or so past the use date. I myself would not drink a bottle so old. Actually I would rather be safe and admire the bottle than risking getting sick from a real old bottle soda pop.

Well, aspartame aka Nutrasweet breaks down with age AND/OR heat. Either will do it in. This is an excellent reason not to buy diet sodas with aspartame at service stations. If they have sat outside in the sun, for even a day, they can be atrocious!

I had a SURGE the other day that was dated 10-23-97 and it gave me horrible chest pains and was taribly flat (no fizz) and very little taste and your crystal is about 5 years older then that one so i'm guessing you will get even sicker (if thats even a werd) it's not worth it!.

For what it is worth, the shelf life of sugar sweetened soda in cans is normally....

    39 WEEKS.

The stuff is canned, which means it won't spoil quickly...but it still DOES spoil.

Is your life worth drinking a really old beverage that may very well make you very, very sick? Or worse?

Well after 22 or so months past expiration, my canned pepsi blue is starting to taste funny. Took it long enough.
