I was just at the store tonight and saw they had Diet 7-up, some were new, with Splenda, and some was the old stuff. I hadn't heard anything about Diet 7-up switching over. I liked the old Diet 7-up, except for its tendancy to go flat very quickly. So I'm wondering how well this new stuff will taste. I'll have to put some in the fridge and do a taste test later.

Okay, I just did a comparison between the two. To me, the old aspartame/Ace-K formula tastes better than the new Splenda/Ace-K variety. The old one has, more of a bite to it, it's crisper.

    LOL
The soda pop world is spinning to fast. LOL

Before sprite came on to the scene,7up in the Chicago market was a popular soda pop. Your right, I drink 7up and diet 7up every once and a while, it's a nice lemon/lime soda pop. Why can't the powers to be leave it alone and if they change diet Dr. Peper....that may cause a small war. I have both 7up and Diet Dr. Pepper on my A list. I do not drink them on a daily basis but I do grab them as I can when I'm out and about.

I had one of my co-workers try one of the Splenda diet-7-Ups yesterday. He agreed with me, it's not as good as the old formula. Seems to me that the soda manufacturers are gambling that the Splenda name is worth more than a good formula.

Well, I just bought my LAST Diet 7Up. You are right. It is nowhere near as good as the previous formula. Splenda-Schmlenda. It ain't as good to my taste, and I is the one paying (or in this case, from now on not paying) for it.

Just by the word "splenda" alone, I will head your warning and not even try the new diet 7up.
Like you said some of these oldies but goodies diet soda pops have a some what cult following.

We have enjoyed them for years and now a bunch of
"suits" want to play Splenda hide and go seek with us. I say BS!!!

I really liked the most recent Aspartame/Ace-K Diet 7UP formula - IMHO, it was easily the best of the "big 3" diet lemon/lime soda, and one of the best diet sodas overall . I haven't tried the Splenda version yet, but somehow I had a feeling they were messing with a good thing.

I'll give it a chance though - I'll probably still like it better than Sprite Zero or Sierra Mist Free.

Does Splenda have a better shelf life than Aspartame? If so could this be one of the reasons for the switch? I have noticed that the Diet Coke w/Splenda has a better shelf life than the regular Diet Coke, but this may just be because it is new and our inventory has not built up yet.

No, Splenda does have a longer shelf life than aspartame. Aspartame/Ace-K mix also lasts longer than straight apsartame.

Look at the date codes on Diet Coke, and then on the Diet Coke flavors (Diet w/ Lime and Diet Cherry are the big two sellers).

We are talking about can codes here.. any carbonated soda in 2 liters or 20oz is date coded 90 days. 70 days for 16.9oz and smaller.
