The new company (name escapes me) that brought Albertson's;does anyone know if this company operates their existing stores in other ways than the industry norm.

I mean dose this store have a lot of private label items? Just in general will there be many changes in former Abertson stores?

Supervalu runs pretty "blah" stores from what I know. Most are of the low-price, basic format, either equal or maybe slightly lower than Albertson's. (Although they did just start opening a "Whole Foods" type clone which is more upscale)

Supervalu is going to run into issues in the Northeast (especially PA) because Supervalu already supplies most of the smaller-independent chains with most of what they sell/store brand products, so they are gonna run into issues now that Supervalu will be operating actual grocery stores in this area.

Since I work for Osco in Chicago, we will be turned into a CVS store, while the Jewel Osco stores will be turned into Super Value stores. SuperValue is known for its supplying of other foods stores for a major part of its business which includes generic food and drug lines which is highly profitable and will probably become more apparent in the new stores. They probably will continue to supply those stores since they have such a great distribution service and have competitive pricing. However this might not occur to much in the Chicagoland market since Jewel Osco was one of the gems of the deal for its profitability and well run stores(sometimes)and amount of property owened by the company. Not sure what the banner name will be for Jewel Osco since they cant become Cub stores since Super Value must sell those already existing stores because of antitrust issues.

In have been in a good number of grocery stores during my early years of merchandising for P&G.
Through the the years Jewel has made good efforts at giving what it's customers want.

Jewel is a well operated grocery chain. It sells quality off brand products and in general it's departments like meat, produce, dry goods ect are done well. I buy everything there.

I would hate to see Jewel morph into a Cub Foods type of store. My guess is that aside for bring in Super Value's brand items, they will pretty much not change Jewel.
