Was the reformulation of Pepsi One last year supposed to be the answer to Coke Zero? To me, One tastes nothing like regular Pepsi. I wish that it would either be reformulated again, or for Pepsi to come out with something new to better compete with Zero, because One is not getting it done. I love regular Pepsi, but I can't drink it for dietary reasons. They need something that tastes like regular Pepsi.

Pepsi used to be the new product innovators who laughed at Coke for relying on tradition. But now Coke is kicking their ass in new products. What happened??? Does Pepsi have anything new coming out soon?

I think they gave up on Blue too fast.

Coke Zero is an answer to pepsi one, not the other way around.

I don't really think Coke Zero is an "answer" to any Pepsi product. It is conceptually similar to the original Pepsi One, but neither that nor the new formulation tastes much like Pepsi.

And right, PepsiCo seems pretty intent on pushing the heck out of Diet Pepsi, so it's not likely that we'll see the Pepsi equivalent of Coke Zero anytime soon. Unless they decide to "tune up" the taste of Diet Pepsi.

Depends how you look at it. Coke does seem to do a better job at CSD innovation. Pepsi, however, kicks Coke's a$$ when it comes to NON CARB products. Pepsi is coming out with a LOT of new products...they just happen to be non carbs. Coke releases more CSD products. However, think about the way the beverage market has been trending over the past 5-6 years...

And Blue died a horrible death! Pepsi did not let go too fast...believe me! Let it rest in peace!

pepsi one is more like diet coke with splenda than coke zero.

zero is unique to coke because, unlike pepsi, coke has TWO formulas--the "new coke" formula used in diet coke, and the "classic" formula, now used in zero.

pepsi only has one formula (that is not artificially sweetened), so there really isn't a need for pepsi one. they might be better off just cancelling pepsi one and introducing diet pepsi with splenda. that would keep people who currently like diet pepsi AND splenda (but might not like pepsi one) from switching to diet coke with splenda.

coke zero actually addresses a void in the market (a diet version of coke classic). pepsi one fills no such void. the only reason to buy it is for splenda. but since diet coke already sells almost twice as much as diet pepsi, and since the name (diet coke with splenda) is self-explanatory, splenda-lovers are more likely to reach for dc with splenda than pepsi one.

i wouldn't be surprised if pepsi one is discontinued down the road.

Pepsi One does very well in this market...in grocery stores, it ranks within the top 10 (amongst Pepsi products)...around #6 or #7 in 12pks and 2ltrs.

Well, Pepsi one was originally an alternative diet cola to Diet Pepsi, then they changed the sweetener to Splenda last year. I did NOT like the old formula but the new one I do like. I also liked Pepsi Edge (down to my final 12 pack of those now) which was sugar/splenda mix. I don't forsee Pepsi ditching Pepsi One because they want an alternative for those who don't want aspartame. I like Diet Pepsi as well, but I'd choose P1 over DP if I had the choice in packaging that DP comes in. I buy DP in PET 12,16.9 and 24 ounce containers for what I bring with me to work, and if P1 came in any of those containers around here I'd buy them instead. Alas, it's only cans...

i live in nyc, where shelf space is limited, and P1 is almost non-existent here. so maybe i have a skewed view of how it's doing.

i haven't tasted the splenda version of P1 yet, but i liked the previous formula.

still, i think coke zero tastes the best, and i've replaced diet coke with that.

Pepsi One and Coke C2 were directly in competition. They are considered mid-calorie CSD's.
