I recently went to Mexico and had a coke and I noticed it tasted better than Coke in the States. I looked on the label and saw that it had sugar in it instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Does anyone else wish that American Coke would switch back to sugar cane???

You,me and 99.5% of this message board. Soda pop made with sugar is for us here in the States is real treat. There are soda pop freaks that travel hundreds of miles to buy special sugar sweetened soda pop.

If you go to a Mexican fruit & vegetable market chances are that you will find Mexican Coke sweetened with sugar. You probably find a few other flavors too.

American mass market soda pop will stick with HFCS as it less expensive.

HFC is the one of the worst things you can put in your body. Sugar, on the other hand is more easily digestible in its pure form as well as so much better tasting.

A few years back I remember some guy in OK, TX, NB or some state therin was still bottling Dr. Pepper with Real sugar and charging a premium. Consequently, he couldn't keep up with the demand. Does anyone know who this guy is or was?

I suspect that if mainstream companies offered premium-priced cane sugar versions of their popular products, that there would be a market for it.

The sad part is if we were allowed to buy sugar on the open market say from BRAZIL. The cost would be the same as HFCS. The fact is the our goverment forces us to pay double what we should be paying on the open market just so we can line the pockets of USA sugar companies. Can you tell its a sore spot with me???

Are you thinking of Dublin (TX) Dr Pepper, perhaps?
(see <http://www.dublindrpepper.com/>). Bevnet has a review of it at <http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/drpepper/>.

I believe there may be other isolated local bottlers who do it, too. No soda I know benefits from sucrose-sweetening more than Dr Pepper!

The sugar industry is a huge economic force in Florida. It contributes millions of dollars to political candidates both statewide and nationally. You would be hard pressed to get rid of it.
I do understand your issues with it though.
