Just got back from Sardegna...everyone in the US usually says Sardinia...but just like Venice is really Venizia and Rome is really Roma..Milan is really Milano...Florence is really Firenze, etc...I TRY to stick with the authentic way of spelling when possible. LOL

Best cappucinos I have ever tasted. Even in the airport with people rushing to catch flights, the coffee place there refused to serve any coffee in "paper to go cups". It's like sacrilege there to drink your cappuccino and taste the paper cup at the same time. Some German tourist asked the guy behind the counter to get his coffee to go...the guy just gave him a dirty look. I laughed.

Drank Il Mirto (Sardegna specialty liquer) & Grappa..Italian version of white lightening booze. Fantastic. Kept my chest warm for hours!
Ate gnochetti, caprese salad, focaccia, ceviche, lobster..all fresh catches off the mediterranean..fantastic.

'Granite cliffs rising up out of the waters, "8 million euros and up" villas in the hills surrounding Porto Cervo..make Hollywood mansions look like doll houses. Hot cars everywhere you look...alfa romeos, lamborghinis, maseratis, porsche cayenne is the everyday SUV.

best ocean water in Europe by far. cleanest. incredible colors.

was able to watch the World Cup Final match between France & Italy and the whole town of Porto Cervo erupted when Italy won. They lit off fireworks over the harbor and grown men were falling out of their chairs at Dante's restaurant and hugging each other and crying. Italians love Il Calcio!! It;s a religion there.

we rented a car and it was so easy to drive all up and down the north and eastern coast...the roads were new and signs easy to read

I spoke more than enough Italian to get us around which was appreciated by the people. They were rude to other tourists who refused to try and speak Italian and made everything more confused.

all in all, I would go back next year to the same place and stay longer than a month if possible to be able to stay in other areas and of course also go to Sicily. Corsica is really close to..you can see it from the La Maddellena Islands that we sailed to one day. Everything is close enough in that area as ling as you have a few months of time.

if anyone wants info on how to get to Porto Cervo for vacation next year (this years pretty much booked), just let me know and I can give you more ideas. You fly into Olbia airport and you can have a rental car waiting for you right there...so easy. About a 30 minute drive. lots of hotels and villas to choose from depending on size of your group. Even if you rent a villa, you can still have someone come and clean it for you everyday and change linens, do washing etc.

anyway, it's a great place for anyone..single or family. On the road from Olbia, there is a strip of nightclubs that stay open till about 6am...they were packed when we passed them on our way heading to the airport when we were leaving.

I said these phrases the most while in Italy

    "Io parlo Italiano....un po!!"

    "Quanto costa questo?"

"Vorrei cambiare diversi assegno di viaggio"

    "Il conto, per favore."

    "Dove il bano"

    LOL
