I got a 2003 Mazda 6 with 10,500 miles on it for only $15k (in Oct '04)!! It was one of the "corporate" cars driven by a Mazda employee to and from the office...fully loaded, lots of extras...very cool. A friend of mine referred me to his dealer where he just bought a new one...so they hooked me up nicely!

You sure got a great deal. Lots of bang for the buck. Used low mile cars in general are good values especially from an automobile corporate fleet.

I bought an old Taurus from some an elderly guy and got a decent deal, but if I can get 10 years out of it, it'll be worth the two grand. LOL

TLC....older used cars will last long.
Oil changes every 3,000 miles and lots of prayers along with a tank every now and then of mid grade gas to help clean the fuel injectors.

I also recommend taking a 20 mile trip on the highway, to burn out the carbon deposits, at least once a month if you only do city driving.

Oh I replaced the gas tank, cleaned the fuel system, and new motor mounts.

I'm just worried about the transmission. Tauruses are awful for those. When I got the new motor mounts I noticed that my car accelrates a bit slower, like it needs to be re-broken into agian.

I plan to buy a Toyota Prius in 2007... maybe I'll do it yet this year if I get frustrated enough... doing the math it'll save me over $3,200 in gasoline every year assuming a 50mpg average in the city... which from what I understand after talking with a couple hybrid clubs... its way underestimating it since they have guys getting over 60mpg and one who was able to get 70mpg with careful driving... but my foot is a little heavy so I'll be thrilled with 50mpg... just sad that I drive so much around the city for work I can save over $3200 in gas (and thats at a $3.00 per gallon estimate for the calculator used)

LOL You might want to adjust the price of a gallon of gas to $4 in your equation. Heck low grade gas on average in Chicago is around $3.30 per gallon.

Gee if there was a car that could get a 1000 miles on a pint of blood,I would get one. That what it feels like to buy gas now a days. It's funny but $2 a gallon of gas seems darn cheap.

If what you did yesterday still looks big, you haven't done much today.

Y'know... I don't have a problem with the price of gas. I love my car a lot -- a lot better than a dinky econobox and I will do whatever it takes to keep it running. A repair bill a few times a year and gas sure beats payments.
