For a long time I have been drinking either Dannon or Ice Mountain spring water from a 16.9oz bottle. Lately I have been able to get vending pak(28ct) 20oz btls of Ice Mountain from Sam's Club. The 20oz bottle is fatter and has a slightly smaller opening. It seems to me that I enjoy the smaller opening as it lets in less oxygen as I drink the water.

Is there a scientific reason for my perception or am I just as goofy as usual?

    Just goofy as usual!!!! LOL

I think it is all a matter of what you like personally.
A few years ago the "Big Mouth" can was popular in the beer segment. Miller lite has the big mouth in a plastic bottle along with a plastic long neck with a regular size opening.
Whether you think can or think you can\'t, you\'re probably right!

A few summers ago I drank an Ice Cold Coors Lite out of a Big Mouth 20 or 24 oz. bottle, it was verry refreshing on a Hot Summer day out on the boat.
