I've seen from the Holland, Mich bottling plant belly-banded 6pk 1/2 liters. These apparently are replacing the cardboard wrapped 6pks that, while more attractive graphically, represented problems with the cardboard ripping easily.

it's the plastic rings that wraps around the middle of the bottles.

I think at least in the Chicago area we have have 8pk but not 6pk belly-banded 500ml soda pops. Do you think this the beginning of the soda pop industry slowly phasing out the cans at least in retail store?

Cans represent 60% of CCE's business (and probably a similar amount for other bottlers), so I don't see the industry phasing them out.

I remember when 500ml first came out - we had them in baskets (similar to how you see Frappachino packaged, but it held 6 bottles). People were constantly taking bottles out of the packages. What a pain. I was so glad when they went to belly bands.

Davis Beverages in Allentown PA does something weird. They hi-cone their 500ml, and then they shrinkwrap them.
