I'm very curious as to how much profit if any is there when the chain grocery stores have their weekly hot sales. Are these hot sales loss leaders? Do the companies like Coke make a profit?

Chicago is blessed with a very active big three soda pop market. Each week, if you are able, the big three have some great deals. About 4 or 5 times a year case can be brought for $4.

I consider Chicago to be a soda pop mecca.

At those retail numbers there is no profit. Most likely they are chasing quotas and rankings.

I rarely see 2 liters for 69 cents any more. The off brands like Big K and Sam's Choice are always like 50 cents but the cheapest I ever see Coke and Pepsi 2 liters are 89 cents. I try to get one or two when the price for them is under $1.

The Chicago soda pop market is extremely competitive. I swear, nearly each week either Coke,Pepsi or Dr Pepper has a very hot sale of at least the 2 liters. The hot sale prices range from 69 cents to 99 cents. Cases range from $3.99 to $5.99 on hot sale.

It is easy if one is on a tight budget to pinch a few pennies. When I first got of college and money was tight as I was paying rent for an apartment, I remember brand bouncing to save some money. Back then the regular price for a 2 liter was around $1.49 The sales were around 59 cents to .79 cents. So that was cool.

Really if your a big brand soda pop drinker, Chicago is the place to be for hot weekly sales.

You can find Coke or Pepsi or Dr Pepper (usually always on sale with pepsi products here) in Columbus OH on sale for $4 or $5 for 24 packs several times a year. They often have 12 packs for $1.99 on sale. Kroger has great sales on soda. It's almost as if Pepsi and Coke rotate sales every other week at Kroger.

Yeah, Kroger does do that around here all the time. One week you can buy pepsi 2 liters for 99 cents and the next week you can buy coke 2 liters for 99 cents. Every now and then the 12 packs go on sale, but not often enough. Then very rarely either coke or pepsi 2 liters will go on sale for 69 cents. Thats a pretty good deal!!
