BevNET is pleased to announce Kevin McClafferty, the president and CEO of the Marley Beverage Co., as a confirmed speaker for BevNET Live’s winter event in Santa Monica on Dec. 3 and 4 at the Loew’s Beach Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif.
Under McClafferty and his team, Marley has shown steady, rapid growth as the company has taken leadership of the Relaxation Drink category and beyond. Now approaching sales of 3 million cases after just two years in business, the company has expanded through careful execution in convenience and supermarket accounts, delivering chains consistently to a national DSD network.
McClafferty, whose background is on the sales side of the beverage business, will share expertise gained from years at Sara Lee, Talking Rain, Soma Beverage Co. and now Marley on the ways that emerging beverage companies can identify the right DSD partner to buttress their sales efforts. He will also discuss some of the key factors behind the growth of Marley as a brand that has had to walk the line between the image of the universally recognized musician for which it is named and the new style of functional beverage that lies in its container.
About Kevin McClafferty
Kevin McClafferty, President and CEO of Marley Beverage Co., has 24 years of food and beverage experience that began at Nabisco, where he worked his way up the corporate ladder from Territory Sales Manager in New England to Senior Director of National Accounts. In 1998, he left Nabisco to help Sara Lee Coffee and Tea develop it’s distribution system and manage several branded acquisitions as V.P. of Sales, West. Kevin left Sara Lee after 6 years to join Bolthouse Farms — his first beverage “start up” experience — then assisted Soma Beverage in launching the Metromint line across the country. Before coming to Marley Beverage, McClafferty was VP of Sales and eventually President of Talking Rain Beverage Co. McClafferty holds a B.S. from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire did his post-grad and executive training at Notre Dame University and London Business School in the U.K. He has been married to his wife, Sandy, for almost 30 years.. They have three sons (Jeff, Nick and Andres) and live in Scottsdale, AZ.
