FINANCIAL
Nestle plans to invest $200 million in a plant opened in 2006.The Anderson, Ind. plant produces Coffee Mate and ready-to-drink NesQuik, and also functions as a distribution center. • Coca-Cola’s Baton Rouge bottling plant paid $603,960 for a 3.6-acre parking lot it had been leasing for 10 years at its operations. Deloitte released their Q2 2008 Food & Beverage Update, available here.  San Diego sports bar Moondoggies has been found in contempt of court for substituting generic energy drinks for Red Bull without informing customers who order the drink by its brand name. “This is the second time that Red Bull has caught the bar passing off,” according to a statement released by Red Bull North America, Inc. The drink manufacturer filed a federal lawsuit against Moondoggies in 2003, and won a $50,000 settlement and a permanent injunction preventing the bar from substituting drink for Red Bull. • A Michigan lawmaker introduced a bill that would ban the sale of energy drinks to customers under the age of 18. Multi-Vitamin Enhanced Water is now sold at more than 40 Compare Foods markets in the New York metropolitan area. • Smith's, a Las Vegas food store, will now sell Yakult probiotic dairy beverage in all regional locations. • Coke Consolidated will roll out Slap energy drinks from Brain Twist in North Carolina in October.

PEOPLE
Designer Whey announced that Lars Nilsen joined their team as Senior Vice President of Sales. Nilsen previously worked at Coca-Cola and Jones Soda, and nutritional juice company Nutri-Fruit. • National Beverage Corp. has begun a search for an independent director to serve on its board of directors and audit committee. The loss of director Lee King loss temporarily placed the company in non-compliance relative to the requirement of a minimum of three independent directors on the audit committee. Under the NASDAQ rules, the company has until January 22, 2009 to appoint an additional director. • The Walt Disney Co. appointed former Coca-Cola executive Andrew Kam – who has 20 years of experience in China – as managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland. • Cascadia Consulting Group's Bill Sipper has been unanimously elected to the National Osteoporosis Foundation's Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Mr. Sipper has been working with the National Osteoporosis Foundation ( http://www.nof.org) for the past two years.

MISCELLANEOUS
The nonprofit American Botanical Council recently released a monograph on the published scientific and clinical studies relating to POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice. POM Wonderful was evaluated for its effects on cardiovascular disease, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction. The authors of the monograph further provide information on the active constituents and safety of pomegranate juice, as well as distinguishing characteristics particular to POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice. • The Houston Coca-Cola Bottling Co. unveiled new hybrid delivery trucks that use 32 percent less fuel than standard trucks. For more information, click here. • Navistar announced the delivery of Red Bull's first fleet of diesel hybrid electric trucks that achieve 30-40 percent better fuel efficiency and emit up to 33 percent less hydrocarbon emissions and 35 percent less nitrogen oxide emissions versus standard diesel trucks

Mountain Dew announced the national launch of Green Label Art 2008 - Volume II, a limited edition series of collectable aluminum bottles designed by contemporary artists. The collection includes six unique designs that will be distributed in limited quantities to convenience stores and select Target stores nationwide in early August through October. • Ardea Beverage Company announced it will continue its partnership with Macy’s on the retailers fashion event, Glamorama, in Minneapolis and Chicago. All eight sparkling varieties of Nutrisoda will appear at Macy’s Post Party. • Denver will host Red Bull Soapbox Race on October 25, 2008. • Allen Flavors launched the latest edition of its website, showcasing their concept to market services, flavor development, ingredient supply and their relationship with Nestle as their American master distributor of coffee and tea. Pepsi will launch its campaign of "Pepsi Lemon NFL Kickoff" colas and offer a limited-edition Gatorade Slurpee flavor. • The Democratic National Convention Committee picked Atlanta-based Coca-Cola’s recycling unit as the official recycling provider for the 2008 Democratic National Convention Aug. 25-28 in Denver. The Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., also named Coca-Cola Recycling LLC one of two official recycling providers. • Coca-Cola is providing every 2008 Olympian and Paralympian in Beijing with an item from its “sustainable fashion” line, Coca-Cola T-shirts or visors made from a blend of cotton and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
