Beverage Industry Veteran Ed Slade Passes Away

This morning, BevNET received the very sad news that Ed Slade has passed away after a battle with cancer.

Ed’s time in the industry will not be forgotten, having worked with a host of food & beverage companies both big and small, including ConAgra, Group Danon/Evian, FIJI Water, Twelve Beverages, and Owater. His biggest and most impressive feat came during his tenure at FIJI, where, as President and COO, he led the brand from being its startup roots into what eventually became the number one bottled water in the US. More recently, Ed had served as an investment advisor at Sherbrooke and Viking Capital and also served as President/CEO of Twelve Beverages.

And from our point of view at BevNET, Ed was one of the nicest people in the beverage industry that you’ll ever meet.

Ed is survived by his wife Sharon and his two sons, Andrew and William. Services will be held next week. His family has asked that donations be made in lieu of flowers to:

When i think of classy people, I think of Ed.  This news has caught me way off guard as I had no idea what he was dealing with.  Ed and I go back to the earliest days of Fiji and we both grew to believe in each other.  Where ever you are resting Ed, you have truly earned all of your rewards.

I emailed Ed out of the blue four years ago. I asked him if he had 15 minutes to talk to a young guy who was thinking of starting a bottled water company. A couple hours later he emailed me back and suggested a time to chat.

    I was shocked.

Ed and I spoke a few times on the phone in the coming months. He was kind and direct each time. Just what a hungry entrepreneur needs.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget Ed. Thank you bud.
