Despite the emergence of natural and better-for-you beverages in the c-store channel, in part two of our video recap of the 2012 National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) show, the editorial team discusses how a “back to basics” sensibility was evident throughout the event.
While the growth of some categories such as vitamin-enhanced drinks, cap-activated beverages, and alkaline waters was clear, manufacturers appeared to direct their attention to innovation and new flavors in traditionally popular c-store beverages including energy drinks, isotonics, ready to drink teas, protein drinks, and even some carbonated soft drinks. And while some natural drink producers were keen on skipping a show packed with a bevy of booths hawking e-cigarettes and beef jerky, BevNET examines other factors that may have kept some beverage companies from exhibiting this year.
