Xenergy + Hydration is the brand’s first caffeine-free beverage that includes electrolytes and an energizing blend of vitamin B.
On Saturday, July 6 at UFC® 162: Silva vs. Weidman in Las Vegas, Muñoz defeated Tim Boetsch in a three round unanimous decision.
Muñoz started his professional fighting career in 2008 at 30 years old–a late start in sport where most athletes begin professional careers in their early 20s. While the road to success has been an uphill trek, Muñoz has never faltered. Today, he is one of the top ranked middleweight fighters in the world.
Born on a Naval Base in Japan to Filipino parents, at 2 years old Muñoz moved to Vallejo, California with his family. He went on to become a serious high school athlete, winning the California State Wrestling Championship twice.
During his college career at Oklahoma State University, Muñoz not only earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, but two Big 12 titles along with back-to-back All-American honors. He was also a three-year member of the USA Junior National Wrestling Team, where, in 1998, he won a silver medal.
In 2007, while studying for a master’s degree, working full-time as a coach and fulfilling his responsibilities as a family man, Muñoz began to train in MMA part-time. By April 2008, he’d decided to make the transition to full-time athlete, retiring from his coaching job. He made his WEC debut in June 2008 where he defeated Chuck Grigsby (13-3) in the first round. Similar fights followed and by late 2008 he made his debut in the UFC.
Today, Muñoz continues his juggling act. He’s a UFC middleweight title contender, owns and manages an MMA training facility, Reign Training Center, in Lake Forest, Calif., where he resides with his wife Kristi and their four children. He says that his success would not have been possible without the support of his community, which is why he makes a point to give back by hosting wrestling camps for under-privileged high school athletes.
Despite his perceived late start in the business of pro-sports, Muñoz hopes his story serve as a reminder to both kids and adults that it’s never too late to pursue what you love.
