“The community service award is given to an individual who helps the Lenny Wilkens Foundation reach into the community to grow, nurture and benefit children’s charities,” said Lenny Wilkens, founder, former NBA player and second all-time winningest coach in league history. “Nina is a community gem who is dedicated, generous and committed to making a difference.”

As part of the award, the foundation is also recognizing Talking Rain, for its dedication to funding and supporting organizations that make a difference in communities around the country.

“Nina’s work at Talking Rain, combined with her volunteer efforts, are truly focused on making the biggest impact possible in the hearts and lives of children and families everywhere,” said Wilkens.

Locally in the Pacific Northwest and in communities throughout the United States and all over the world, philanthropy is a part of Talking Rain’s DNA and a compass that guides the heart of the company. In 2014 Talking Rain committed its support to fund needed program growth and development on behalf of the Children’s Miracle Network throughout the country and will be continuing its support in the year to come. In 2013 alone, the company donated over $400,000 to local Washington state charities and non-profits. Nina Morrison has been with Talking Rain for over 22 years and has helped to spearhead the companies’ commitment to philanthropy. In her personal time, Nina is connected as a volunteer and board member with the Hope Heart Institute and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

The community service award was established in 1992 to recognize an individual whose dedication follows the mission of the Lenny Wilkens Foundation, to support charities that provide healthcare and education for all children regardless of their financial needs.

“I’m truly honored to be recognized for something that is just part of who I am as an individual,” said Morrison. “I was taught long ago that the community can become a better place should you work to bring it together. It is my lifelong commitment to offer services to those who are in need and I feel honored to be able to do this as part of work at Talking Rain.”

Previous foundation community service award recipients have included NBA greatEarvin “Magic” Johnson, Vickie Guillory of What A Feast and Cindy Courtmanch, owner of Marymoor Press.
