Plant-based beverage company Califia Farms unveiled a new line of dairy-free, nitro-infused cold brew coffee lattes at the 2016 Summer Fancy Food Show, and BevNET sat down with company CEO Greg Steltenpohl to discuss the development of the products.
Formulated with a base of almond and macadamia milks and cold brew coffee, added nitrogen “brings out the natural sweetness of the coffee in a silky micro-foam reminiscent of a dark draft beer,” according to Califia Farms. The coffee is packaged in 10.5 oz. aluminum bottles and comes in three flavor varieties: Latte, Mocha, and New Orleans.
For Steltenpohl, the nitro products weave Califia Farms’ expertise in cold brew coffee and plant-based milk products to create a unique offering.
“We think there’s a lot of promise in how you combine these plant-based milks with coffee and then elevate the experience,” Steltenpohl said. “This is the first time I think it’s all come together in one package, at least for us.”
Watch this video to hear much more from Steltenpohl, who talks to BevNET CEO John Craven about Califia Farms designed the nitro line to be more female-friendly, as compared to cold brew coffee (“it’s tended to be a little bit like ‘bro-ville’ on the cold brew side,” he opined), and why the company invested in the construction of a new production facility to create the coffees. Steltenpohl also discusses how coffee fits into the future for Califia Farms.
