The biennial tradeshow for the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) took place this week in Las Vegas at the Bally’s & Paris casinos between Sept 30 and Oct 2. The NBWA is made up of 2,750 licensed independent beer distributors throughout the US.
The 3,700 attendees at the show were primarily distributors from member companies of the NBWA. The exhibits were a broad range of products/services targeted toward beer distributors. Over 20 non-alcoholic beverage companies were among the exhibitors. In recent years, beer distributors have become a vital link in the non-alcoholic beverage distribution system. Following Coca-Cola’s recent acquisition of Vitaminwater, many beer distributors were eagerly seeking a replacement to what had been a very profitable brand. The tradeshow floor was open from 12-4 on both Monday October 1 and Tuesday October 2.
On the show floor BevNET was busy meeting beverage companies of all types. Of course, beer distributors with their access to on-premise locations such as nightclubs and bars, have become very important to energy drink companies. BevNET spotted the following energy drinks such as Syzmo, Liquid Ice, Inko’s Energy, Mad Croc, & Bonzai Energy Drink. Two new energy drinks were at the show, Wildlife energy drink for outdoorsmen and Skin energy drink.
Bottled waters brands were also at the show such as Iceland Spring, Saratoga Springs, Mountain Valley, Vital Lifestyle. BevNET spotted a new bottled water company at the show: Functional Waters and its portfolio of seven brands: Rain, Kick, Strong, Thin, Hot, Chill, and Revolution. Teas were another strong category with exhibitors such as New Leaf, Jones, Sweet Leaf and Inko’s.
Given the hard-partying nature of the town, Las Vegas was the perfect location for the event: there were more than a dozen different bashes sponsored by the various beer companies. NBWA kicked off events on Sunday night its disco-themed annual reception. On Monday night, BevNET attended a party put on by Syzmo Energy drink. Held on the 34 & 35 penthouse Hugh Hefner suite at the Palms casino, the Syzmo party featured live music, free Syzmo and a great mix of people. The views of the strip were amazing the balcony of 10,000 square foot suite. Syzmo Energy drink is sweetened with agave and comes in three flavors: Prickly Pear, Passion and Original.
