According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the company is applying for a patent for a high-fiber concentrated product that can be made with artificial sweeteners and turned into a variety of frozen beverages, both carbonated and non-carbonated.
The patent application indicates that the company has come up with a way to substitute fiber for sugar or HFCS — both of which help create the “freezing point depression” necessary to keep frozen drinks at their snowy consistency.
From the patent application: “Dietary fiber has demonstrated the necessary freezing point depression without negatively impacting taste or quality. The fiber is a soluble dextrin, low in carbohydrate content, necessary to meet requirements for a sugar free claim in the beverage in accordance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines. Additionally, it adds body or mouth feel to the beverage, which is commonly provided by sucrose or HFCS.”
