BevNET.com - 2004 Winter Fancy
Food Show, San Francisco
01/23/2004
Another
year, another Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco. This year felt
slightly light as far as beverage goes, but then again the San Francisco
show isn't typically the biggest show for this category. Regardless, there
were many interesting things at this year's show, which was held from
January 18 - 20.
The most notable product at the show were the new
ready-to-drink teas from The Republic of Tea. Featuring a no carb/no-calorie
formulation, great looking package, and several new flavors -- including two
white teas -- we expect this product to do quite well for them.
As for the other companies displaying at the show, there was one very
noticeable theme shared by many companies. That is, many of the companies
displaying at the show were promoting products targeted at the
health-oriented adult consumer. We saw many products which offered low or no
carb products as well as several featuring formulations which use
significant juice content. Several companies were on hand with products that
fit into this category, including GuS, IZZE, and Steaz -- and, given the
media attention these trends have had, it's no surprise that these companies
all had great foot traffic at their booths. Finally, no trip
to the San Francisco show is complete without a visit to the Real Soda in
Real Bottles, Ltd booth. The legendary Danny Ginsburg always puts on quite a
show at his booth with his "wall of bottles" -- and this year was no
different. A variety of great products were on display at his booth,
including Lolli's Pop, Cricket Cola, and Sparky's, as well as some of his
own creations, such as Leninade and Nectracide.
