CHICAGO – May 30, 2012 – Addressing the growing demand for specialty size cans, Rexam announced that it is adding new production capacity for 12 oz. SLEEK® and 16 oz.
The latest investment in specialty size capacity is the conversion of a 12 oz. beverage can line to 12 oz. SLEEK in the company’s Chicago, Ill., plant. The 12 oz. SLEEK beverage can is one of the fastest growing specialty sizes in the industry, supporting growth in key beverage categories such as energy drinks, functional beverages and beer.
This conversion will also include the capability to produce 16 oz. cans, a size experiencing growth in a number of beverage categories.
This new capacity will be available in the fourth quarter of this year and further complements the company’s specialty portfolio which includes four SLEEK can sizes, three different re-sealable options within the Rexam Cap Can™ family, 16 oz., and industry leadership in the popular 24 oz. size.
“Brand marketers are increasingly realizing volume and pricing success with specialty size cans,” said Andre Balbi, president and CEO, Rexam BCA. “Capacity expansions like these represent our commitment to our customers in helping them take advantage of beverage category growth to build their brand and business.”
