Italian printing organisation StampaSud S.p.a. has seized the opportunity to launch a revolutionary new intelligent innovation for Branding and Marketing agencies involved in the drinks and beverage industry, through SmartLab www.smartlabitalia.com, the labelling division of their packaging operation www.pacoitalia.com.
The innovation is called StampaTech, and it allows consumers and users to access a virtually unlimited amount of information ranging from branding and marketing materials to product origins as well as track and trace capabilities, all triggered via the print element of the drinks or beverage product’s packaging, or label.
Commenting on the revolutionary new product innovation, StampaSud Commercial and R&D Director, Tony Calo, stated, “We wanted something that would appeal to both branding and marketing agencies involved in the drinks and beverage sector, and allowed them to access a host of previously unobtainable information.”
He added, “We realised there was nothing currently in the drinks and beverages packaging sector able to provide this, so now, thanks to our innovative technology, we have developed a product that providers the Branders, Marketers and Manufacturers and not least end users and consumers with a totally brand new dimension via the product’s packaging, from which they can retrieve a wealth of information.”
To use the StampaTech service, a consumer needs to download an accompanying mobile application that supports the technology being used. They scan just about any part of the packaging to be redirected to a platform that houses the information, ranging from marketing materials to product origins and even product quality indications.
Tony Calo added: “A consumer sees nothing on the packaging and the information available to them could be anything; it’s unlimited and determined by the company issuing the product.”
For instance a consumer could scan a label on a wine bottle or any drink and be taken to an interactive video on the producer’s website, from which they can see how and where this was produced and find out more information on other products available, and even register for more information on future products and developments. All of which is valuable and retrievable consumer information for manufacturers and producers.
They could even be taken to the vineyard to see where the grapes were grown for their bottle of wine, but the principle would be the same whether hops or fruit, the possibilities are endless.
Also using GPS tracking; this enables the company’s database to monitor a product from when it is dispatched until it is received by the end user and also allows the branders and the manufacturers to find out information such as where in the world a consumer is scanning a company’s product, and when and how many people have scanned it.
The marketing functions allow monitoring of client interest and satisfaction as well as up sell and cross sell, recommendations and social sharing of product information and full analytical and cloud services as well as anti-counterfeiting all of which could provide endless development possibilities.
The SmartLab innovation is greener, less expensive and involves no secondary elaboration compared to other solutions such as RFID or security tagging, and is more interactive and enlivened than NFC or QR codes but can be incorporated with these technologies if needed.
Tony Calo concluded, “The process is very simple and uses a technology that can be accessed by anybody. It’s very straightforward; it’s a mix of digital and special print technologies.”
Although the system has been devised with packaging specifically in mind, it is adaptable to all forms of print and the introductory package with marketing and track and trace facilities will be free to branding and marketing organisations who register before 2014.
